Anyone who watched the first half last night knows that Bama was ridiculous from 3-point range, and LSU was defending against it pretty well too.

they literally had shooters so open they took their time, looked at the ball, spun it like preparing to shoot a FT on many occasions

Not when they went 9-11 to start the game. They had a defender in their face for all but one of those.

This is LSU b-ball other than beating tenn during our sec title run, every time we have a big game ready to bring the crowds in we shite the bed. If we bounce back it will take a while but this team still has sweet 16 potential

No. I just paid attention to the first part of the game and didn't lose all rationality because of the score.

take the p&g glasses off. Opponents continually move the ball around offensively better than LSU and find open shots. Bama penetrated and kicked the ball out all night to wide open jump shooters and that really isn't disputable...if a guy goes into a shot with no one within 5ft and after the release a defender is within a foot it's still an open shot

Honestly, LSU did not play as atrocious defense as this board makes it out to be in the first half. I rewatched until the 7 minute mark in the 1st half.

3-0 | Petty dribbles into a 3 but Days had a hand up
6-2 | Petty hits 3 over Cam off of kick-out
9-4 | Petty dribbles into a 3. Watford was there with a hand up.
12-4 | Petty hits off balance transition 3 over Cam. Tough shot.
15-4 | Primo hits wide open 3. This was after a Vonte missed 3 that went out of bounds. Inexcusable.
18-4 | Primo hits 3 on the move off the catch. Watford was there with a hand in his face but a step slow.
20-4 | ESPN was late but Reese Layup off dump off pass - hard to see how the ball got inside
23-4 | Petty 3 off perimeter pass from Shackelford, quick two man game with a couple of dribbles. Days was there but Petty was on fire.
25-4 | Herb FTs. We doubled Petty creating an open cutter. Days 2nd foul.
27-6 | Herb layup off of turnover. Herb blew by Gaines with ease and help didn't come. Horrible effort on that play. Wade calls time out.
30-8 | Quinerly deep 3 over Gaines. Set defense. Drive and kick from the top.
30-8 | Herb missed open 3 but Cam got way out of position.
30-8 | Ellis missed wide open 3 and put back. Cam got beat on a lazy closeout.
32-10 | Herb FTs. Transition foul by Watford after Watford lazy turnover.
35-12 | Quinerly feeling it. He gets matched up on Watford and waves everyone to set up an ISO. Drains a deep three off the dribble.
38-16 | Quinerly open corner 3 off paint touch. Zone breakdown. Javonte was out of position.
40-16 | Herb layup in transition off one pass. Lazy transition defense, no one picked up Herb.
43-20 | Petty open 3 off one pass. We lazily trapped Herb in the half court after made bucket. Herb easily stepped through and passed to Petty for the open 3 with Hyatt closing out late. All around bad defense. Cam was slow and shy on the trap and that put Watford and Hyatt in a bind on the back end of the zone.
45-22 | Herb layup in half court set up by Petty dribble drive and Herb cut. Petty beat Leblanc off the dribble, Hyatt stepped in to help. Gaines was out of position on the cutter.
48-22 | Petty wide open 3 in transition. Days was the only player set on defense. Lazy transition defense. Wade calls timeout.

Not as many breakdowns as I was expecting when I went back and reviewed. There were still more than they should be. And if you nit-pick, you hope we close out a step quicker on some of those shots to prevent them from taking them, but no one hits those shots at that clip. And if you overcommit on the close outs, you create much higher percentage looks when they easily get to the middle of the floor especially when you consider how slow footed we are on the perimeter.

Hit 8 of first 9 three pointers, 9 of first 11. That's hard to do on open looks at game speed, much less when most shots are contested.

like another poster said, if Bama shoots their regular 3-point % (35%), then they'd have only made 15 3-pt shots last night. That's 8 fewer, which is 24 points. Bama was up 39 with two minutes left, before we cut the margin late - so we'd still lose handily.

That is not how that works.

Exactly. As I said, only one shot during the first part of the game was uncontested, yet LSU was down by 20 before they even got warmed up. Later in the half, Bama actually missed some 3s that were wide open. It just didn't matter last night. I didn't bother watching the second half. Everytime LSU looked ,like they might start to crawl back into the game, Bama would hit another 3. There was no way that they were going to be able to get back in that game. Sometimes, basketball games are just like that.

I'm so sick of our fanbase turning against our teams. This goes for football also.

In 2019, every football fan was in love with Coach O. Now they want him fired.

For basketball, just last season and in the offseason, Wade was thought of as a basketball God. Now the fanbase wants to hire someone else.

How about we stay loyal to our teams and don't demand/expect perfection every season, every game, every play and understand that no team (LSU or any other) wins every game and every play versus their opponent. Cheer for them to get better as the season goes on and stop being little bitches who want to find a scapegoat for every minor thing that goes wrong during a season.

Do you know where you are?

You only come the Rant to 1) jump off a bridge 2) watch other people jump off a bridge or 3) be driven to jump off a bridge.

We will get another shot at them in Tuscaloosa. Bama is hot rn and the shots were falling big time. We’re still a 20 win team. Relax!

none of this sounds like sound defense.

you don't think the football season (with truly one of the very worst defenses in the entire country) and the basketball team's 30-point blowout loss at home, are reasons for concern?

Now sure, sometimes a team just has a bad night, but we've seen poor defense from Wade's teams for 4 years now. It's fair game to question why it occurs and why it isn't getting better.

And it's a serious issue, because it's going to cause Wade's teams to have a ceiling.

I don't call it overreacting to acknowledge the truth.

We have a dramatic fan base what do you expect? You guys have a short memory and must’ve forgot about the Johnny jones era for tigers hoops. That was the darkest of days.

just because a coach is better than the previous terrible coach, doesn't mean everything is sunshine and rainbows. There's ALWAYS ways to improve.

That's what elite coaches and programs do -- always identify ways to improve. Even if you're undefeated, don't get complacent. Get even better. Otherwise, you'll get fat, dumb, and happy, and the decline will begin.
