Top 10 offensive performances will have at least 7 from 2019. Probably will include 2018 ATM if I had to guess

How come 2007 Virginia Tech isn’t on there? I remember LSU playing great defense that game.

I know that was the definition of "bend dont break" defense and we got a little lucky w missed field goals.
But a bunch of stops and a few turnovers.

The Eric Reid pick in the endzone where he ripped it out of bamas arms lives rent free in my head

Some of these make a lot of sense. LSU whooping Heisman winner’s behinds in both A&M games and the Louisvillie game, but no 2011 LSU @ Bama?

LSU held #2 ranked Alabama to 6 points in OT (2 FG, 0 TD’s) including the best defensive play I’ve ever seen, Eric Reid’s goal line interception.

frick this game with a hot iron poker. That 2016 defense was easily good enough to win a national title, but instead we had an offense less competent than 2023 Iowa

Should have been 0-0 at end of regulation… but for some bad officiating in the 4th qtr. Doesnt say we win but refs gifted that W to the REC.

Ehhh...

They had some of their top offensive guys opt out for that game. Including their QB and WR1, and I wanna say a TE or RB that had pro prospects.

Thats why its up there. LSU had a middle of the pack defense. Purdue had middle of the pack offense. If Purdue is full strength the model probably expects a 38-31 LSU win.

LSU holding Purdue to 7 points greatly exceeded the expectations of the model. It was Purdues worst offensive performance of that season by a large margin. hence the great defensive rating.

This rating is all about how much LSU's defense exceeded expectations. Thats why there arent any 2011 or 2007 games on this list. Those defenses were expected to be dominant by the model.

So that would be what, 18 points had they made them? That Bama team, subtracting the 2 games against LSU, averaged near 40 PPG.

So this isn't really a top defensive performance metric, it's a most surprising defensive performance metric.

That defense with last year’s offense would have been better than 2019.
