I'm a Gator alum and am making my first trip to Baton Rouge to see the game this October.

Before you start flaming me, let me pay a compliment. Of all the SEC rivals we have, I can honestly say LSU is the only one we have whose team/fanbase I admire and respect. Was pulling for you bigtime against OSU 2 years ago. Hate Georgia. Detest Tennessee. Pity SC. Tired of Alabama. Others aren't really worth mentioning in my mind.

Lurking around your boards and having seen you on our campus and elsewhere, I can say that I've found you all to be extremely hardcore, loyal and generally realistic fans. You travel like no other school I've ever seen and you party like there's no tomorrow. Anyone that hauls what is effectively a 48' barbeque and keg holder several hundred miles to a game has my respect. It's really something to behold. And while every school, including mine, has it's fair share of A-holes, my own experience has been that LSU fans have been generally good people that hold things in the right perspective. I hope you've had the same experience with us and apologize in advance if you've instead encountered some of our own homegrown A-holes - sadly, I know they're out there.

My buddies and I are totally stoked for this trip and hopefully we'll walk away having had an unbelievable time (most Gator fans I've talked to that have made the trip have said it was a great experience and have been very complimentary of the fans/atmosphere). My expectation is to be likewise blown away. It should be awesome.

Here's a grapefruit for folks to swing at (though I'd also appreciate some honest feedback). What advice have you got in terms of where to go/what to do/what to see gameday to get most out of our 12 +/- hours in Baton Rouge? Am bringing 7 friends (none of which are UF alum - simply co-workers) who all wanted to see a game in Baton Rouge so we're looking for best places to enjoy pregame rituals. Basically, we're a bunch of 35-40+ year olds that wish we were back in school for another football season. We're staying in New Orleans Friday night and driving up around noon on Saturday.

Thanks. See you in October

Welcome to the board. Keep in mind that every fanbase has their share of idiots and keep your thick skin and you will be fine on this board.

Come to BR hungry!!!

You'll have a great time tailgating, you have to go up to Tailgates though, regardless of being Tiger baited. Just laugh it off and if their classy they'll offer you a little food.

Not worried about the natural bantering of crap back and forth. It's a big part of the experience. That said, I'm sure none of my 7 buddies will be wearing orange & blue - big wimps.

Then don't walk with them. They won't be getting any things from the Tailgate.

Not sure 8AM will work but you're right, I'd prefer more like 10-11AM but we're hoping bus with bigger group. Was lazy in arranging it. Will keep eyes open for earlier alternative.

Will let them know they're at risk of losing out on the legendary food....

Prepare to be well fed. All you have to do is ask, and the tailgaters will be happy to share their food at no cost. You and your friends will no doubt get some ribbing but it's really all in good fun. The only times I've seen opposing fans being treated badly is when they instigate it themselves and act like jackasses. But it's a great, friendly atmosphere. At every big SEC home game last season, we had several fans from other schools at our tailgate.

could be. I'm guessing I'll be high enough up in the corner of the stadium that only God could throw a piss bomb down on me.

Go to Pastimes for lunch. It will be busy, but that is where we always lunch on game day. Make your buddies were UF stuff and just walk around the campus close to the Student Union and you will be fed good cajun food and given lots of beer.

Go check out Mike's habitat and stick around to watch the band go down the hill.

I expect a much closer game than last year no surprise but it's hard for me to predict any loss this year given everything we have coming back. That said, if something strange happens (usually does) and it's our only loss of the year, I'll take it as we'd probably still have a good shot at the NC in that case as we'd have to beat you, Ole Miss or AL in the SECCG to make that one loss thing be true.
