i'm just a shmuck, but from what I observe and from what i'm hearing - this defense will continue to get better and better. there is chemistry plus desire plus coaching AND, dare I say it - a helluva lot of talent.

they could be really good by mid to late season, which will work out really well since the schedule is back loaded.

add that to our creatively unpredictable ground and pound offense with a dangerously threatening passing game - Can you say Championship?

they do need to get more solid in defending the rush in the middle, specially QB draws.

Have you even watched the games thus far?

Dak, the best running QB we will see all year got jack shite against the D.
Auburn got 1 good run becaus 33 took a bad angle. Minus that run, they were less than 100 yards on the ground.

The defense, even up the middle is just fine.

To their defense, that draw was perfect for the D alignment coupled with Jamal Adams and his poor effort on that play. I don't recall Dak busting loose up the middle this year.

My sole complaint is not anything huge. And it's the same complaint I have had in recent years (under Chavis).

So we have two safeties:
- Adams is an old-school type (similar to Landry, Loston and Reid)
- Jefferson and Mills are more of a CB type with legitimate cover skills (similar to Brandon Taylor)

So on a situation where we have the opposing offense in a 3rd-and-long, why do we have Jefferson rushing the passer with Adams in man coverage on a slot WR (like Auburn did to us on Saturday)? The WR beat Adams easily on a simple out route for a 1st down. It happened a number of times when Eric Reid was here - at least once for big yardage.

I know both Reid and Adams are great in deep coverage - playing CF with great ball skills. But they simply do not have the type of CB skills to handle a WR in man coverage. Few safeties do. But Jefferson was a CB recruit coming out of high school (as was Mills). Why not let them cover the slot guy with Adams after the QB?

Again, not a big deal - just something that always bugs me when I see it.

The defense is good but LaCouture and Godchaux have to stay healthy. My concern is depth on the d-line........

Not really QB draws. It part of the read-option. Got back and watch. Take notes on how the OL blocks the defense. OL did a very good job at it when it worked.

There are times it did not work.
