Last night he once dribbled through the entire zone press of WVU. He dribbled out of one double team, past another defender and pushed the ball into the front court. I was like, "why aren't you passing... oh, ok."

it may have worked on that play but it doesnt work way too often. He needs to not try and be a 1 man press break all the time.

Obviously it was a great win, and any team would be excited to pull it off. What I liked seeing, though, was how this team reacted right after clock ticked down. The coaches were not just happy, they all looked at each other at the same moment like they did it, and did it together. LSU looked like a team, not a collection of coaches and players who just won a game.

That may sound sappy, but it's been a long time since I've seen that spark in LSU basketball.

It's probably the biggest win in Coach Jones career. Hornsby came out on twitter and said that was the biggest win of his career. They get 10 days to work everything out and finish up the OOC 11-2.

If I knew we had to go 11-2 in OOC, we lost and won the games I think are best. We have shown we can beat good teams on the road and at home. We lost in the Virgin Islands where you can partially attribute it to having your heads in the wrong place and it's early.

Yeah, ODU's not a bad loss, and even though Clemson is, winning at West Virginia more than makes up for it. Besides, every team on the bubble will have a game where the committee thinks "How did they lose THAT one?" At least it happened early.

To me it is just important that we have a signature win in the OOC season. There aren't very many signature wins available in the SEC so we had to get one outside it.

Also wanted to point out something I can't remember ever happening at LSU...

Top 5 scorers:
Martin 16.1
Mickey 15.6
Hornsby 12.3
Gray 12.0
Quarterman 11.9

Having 5 guys averaging over 11.9 PPG is pretty unbelievable.

The upcoming soft part of our schedule needs to be dominated so we can get Elbert Epps and Patterson some crucial work before sec play.

SOS, thoughts on the flagrant 1 not being called on the Hornsby foul? I could have sworn up and down that would have been a flagrant 1.

I'm rewatching the game right now...

It's a tough call. honestly you are gonna tell me an elbow is worse than a hand to the face? I don't see it. I think it shoulda been called.

Agreed, especially Elbert. I think Sam Houston State (our next opponent) has a 6-11/7 foot starting center.

an elbow is way more dangerous than a hand to the face. I didn't like it, but the refs made the right call. swinging elbows can hurt somebody bad.

I agree an elbow is more dangerous.

They both were flagrant 1's. It was about as easy of a call to make. Chicken shite refs didnt want to make the call because of the situation.

quote:

Fouls language
The panel also approved a change in nomenclature on fouls that are deemed more severe than a “common” foul in both men’s and women’s basketball. The terms “Flagrant 1” and “Flagrant 2” will now be used. A Flagrant 1 foul takes the place of an intentional foul and the Flagrant 2 foul replaces the previous flagrant foul.

An example of a Flagrant 1 foul would be when a player swings an elbow and makes illegal, non-excessive contact with an opponent above the shoulders. The team whose player was struck would receive two free throws and possession of the ball. Previously, this type of foul was called an intentional foul. The committee wanted to move away from the word “intentional,” because a player’s intent was never the point to the rule.

Clear as day in the bolded section. First part of the sentence describes elbert, second part the WVU player on Keith (he didnt use an elbow like in the example but that is irrelevant).

also i was really missed at Martin for overextending and fouling (i get mad at him a lot though, probably unfairly) but that was a damn 5 second count.

Beat me to it. Not that I give a shite anymore, but those were both flagrant 1's.

The game went very much as I expected it to... Lots of turnovers, some bad fouls, and a close game. I didn't expect LSU to pull it out. I think that comes down to the 50%+ three point shooting. That was not expected and likely was a major reason we were able to pull this one out.

That and the team as a whole cinching up the pressure in their half court defense. That was championship caliber ball over the last 12 or so minutes of the game by the Tigers.

If Elbert can just get adjusted to this game just a bit it would help tremendously imo. Him and Odo could play valuable minutes down the stretch. And with how we played the past two games Epps should be a great fit coming off the bench.
