I'm just curious..... has there ever been a coach that LSU fans actually like?

See one thread bashing Mainieri, another one bashing Jones and I always hear the Miles bashing year after year. I went to LSU, worked in the athletic department during school and am a die hard fan for all sports. Just blows my mind that it's National Championship or bust in every single sport every year and how delusional our fan base has become.

Even Saban got crucified after the Ole Miss game back in 2001 but they were able to rebound and play in sec title game

Only for a nanosecond after a big win, sometimes...otherwise they all need to be fired!!

It's not really the place where a coach goes to retire. Win or get out.

I think you take too much stock into what is said on tRant. Do you think this is a forum for people to, at all times, throw white doves in the air, sing kumbya, and say how much they love coach X?

It's not the coaches. It's the fans. More like, it's the same posters over and over again and in all sports. If you read this place long enough, you will see who they are.

Yep. No one really ever questioned him. But of course that was before these message boards took off.

Sounds like you are a fan of mediocrity. Who said the basketball team should have won the championship?

I wonder if we apply and expect the same standards at our job that we expect of LSU's coaches.

even before the internet, coaches walked the fine line of being elected governor or demoted to dog catcher. thats nothing new. today's time with the internet and message boards, social media, etc, allow the 13 year olds to be heard by the rest of us.

As fans it's in our nature to be critical of the coaches and their decisions. Fans' expectations are that of perfection from the coaches and when they make a human mistake, we bitch and complain because the team we love so much didn't perform like we'd hoped.

I'm the first one to complain about CLM and CPM but damnit, they have "Coach" in front of their name for a reason and that reason is because they're much more knowledgeable in the sport they coach than I will ever be.

I can admit that.

I forget whose quote it is, but they described a perfect season at LSU as an "undefeated record, a national championship, and you still get to fire the coach."

LSU fans were screaming for Skip's head after the baseball team got swept in an early season series at home by Houston in 2000. LSU lost 10-2, 11-7 and 10-2 at the Box to drop to 6-5 and the fans went nuts. I remember Barbier making comments in the paper that the team just ignored stuff like that from the fans.

Yep, that was Skip's last NC team. The fans were saying the game had passed him by, and that he didn't have it anymore. There is nothing that will keep LSU fans from picking apart any coach that doesn't win every game.
