re: LSU can beat Bama if Les doesn't get in the way...

I just have a hard time blaming the defense.
Our coaching staff relied on them all season. Against Florida they were on the field the entire 2nd half.
Against South Carolina and Texas A&M (especially aTm), we were very conservative on offense and relied a lot on the defense in the 4th quarter.
They were on the field when we were up 23-21 against Carolina and 24-19 against aTm and were asked to hold on, and they did. I can't fault them completely for failing once against one of the best teams in the country. Even if they did make some mistakes on that last drive.
Kicking the 54-yard field goal was one of the biggest mistakes Miles has ever made, IMO. If it's 7-3 at half, and we come out that dominant in the 2nd half, it's likely that nothing that happens late in the 4th matters. We would have been up by more than one score.
Like you said, Alleman sucked. When he ran out on the field I was honestly in disbelief.
As for the other two mistakes in the 2nd half... I think the Spencer Ware QB sneak (and the one we do now with Jennings) is the stupidest fricking thing I've ever seen. The tight formation we get in with the running back a few yards up that gives away that we are sneaking is honestly retarded. I can't help thinking that only a retarded person would call that formation (keep in mind, I still love Miles). I'm okay with the sneak, but why not just line up in a normal formation and sneak it? This way they still have to account for a regular dive play. Yeah, I know we ran the trick play against aTm last year out of the same tight formation, but Alabama knew what was coming.
And like I said, I would have put the ball in Mettenberger's hands instead of letting Alleman try another long field goal late in the 4th. Like we said, he really wasn't a good kicker, and Mett was on fire. This isn't hindsight, it's what I felt as I sat at the game.
Did Les cost us the game? Maybe I went overboard with that. But I like the phrase "out-coached himself." He made some very questionable calls.

Please tell me more about how much you know regarding Les' weekly input into the offensive and defensive gameplan. Better yet, show his weekly contributions and how they equate to success, or lack thereof, on the field in the given week
I've been watching the offense in recent weeks (as some of you prolly have to)......if it walks like a duck....well you can deduce the rest.

I would say I agree with this one. Decisions like that are so tough though. Had we done that and it was an incomplete pass, you know everyone would have been apoplectic over the decision. Though in this case the FG was only 45 yards (but Alleman was really bad). Either way, tough call there.

I can agree with this one too. Definitely made some questionable calls, but he always has. When they work out, he is God. When they don't, everyone hates him. Going for it on fourth against UF so many times. Letting the clock run down against Auburn and then throwing in the end zone in 2007. Fake field goal against Florida in 2009. Fourth down call against Bama in 2010 at home.

i still dont know why we went with the onside kick. turned out ot be irrelevant, but...
we ha djust scored and had ALL the momentum.
defense was playing fricking lights out.
why? just why?

Correct. That is exactly the point I just made. Someone saying how bad our offense has struggled the last three games was just stupid. Offense is not and has not been the problem all season with the exception of the first half against Ole Miss.
you can spin this any fking you want to but for anyone too say that the offense is the "same" as it has been all year is horse shite. Yea yea I know about the curb stomping vs. furman (2nd half)...I'm talking prior to that....turnovers, penalties, clock management, shift to a run-first mentality again, tougher competition.....all have derailed this offense to a certain degree.

Onside kick and fake field goal both didn't have any bad repercussions, but yeah they were both very questionable.
Then attempting the 54-yarder, the QB sneak, and not going for it on 4th down before Alabama's game-winning drive.
5 decisions that I disagreed with. 3 of them had an impact on the game, IMO.

Les didn't make 3 bad read & throws against Ole Miss
What isn't working now is those "timing" throws that were earlier. Mett has to see that and not throw a pick like he did vs Furman.
That was horrible

I think he might be banged up a little bit
Posted on 10/28/13 at 2:55 pm to lsusteve1
Mett has been hurt. That's why our offense is different. Pretty simple.

Yawn all you want but if you think that Les doesn't have serious issues with clock management then you are as dumb as Les looked 2 weeks ago at Ole Miss and in 2009 against ole Miss (clock it).
I like Les and I've been called a Sunshine Pumper for defending him but he is terrible at managing the clock. There really is no way to deny it. It's happened too many times.

No WackyChris, I think Les Miles is lost as a fricking goose on the sideline during the course a game. I don't have faith in his ability to make correct decisions when time is of the essence and the game is on the line. Deal with it.

What about them? can their defense stop an offense with a pulse?
I think they beat Ole Miss 25-0 or something like that?
Ummm, didnt LSU give up 30+ to Ole Miss?
Nuff said.

Sorry 27 points to Johnny Reb.
Either way, LSU wont be able to stay in game against Alabama unless the coaching improves and the defense gets better between now and game time.
