You're probably right, the SEC seems to give A&M whatever they want.

Wouldn't Shreveport and the Indy bowl be more fun than any of these? Anyone been to Shreveport lately? What is the best part of the city for pre-game?

Doesn't the team get a say?

I honestly think it is hard to predict who goes to which bowl since the system of assigning bowls is new this year. Will the SEC go for matchups or geography? Lots of variables. Should be a good learning experience.

It won't be Shreveport. It and Birmingham are the two "bottom of the barrel" bowls that pick after the Liberty, Music City, Outback, TaxSlayer, Texas, and Belk are given teams. One of the 6-6 teams will end up there.

different destination.

LSU fans won't travel to Jacksonville. Since bowls are all about making money, the only bowl that it would make sense to send us to is the Texas Bowl, since the Indy Bowl is out of the question. It's the only bowl game that LSU fans will travel to in sufficient numbers. If we end up in Nashville, Memphis, Charlotte, or Jacksonville, we won't sell more than 10K tickets guaranteed. LSU can't afford to travel poorly for the 3rd year in a row.

Auburn - Autozone Liberty Bowl

From playoff contender to Liberty Bowl would have to feel awful.

I'm afraid I have some bad news. I do not see LSU fans traveling in sufficient numbers to the Texas Bowl either.

We won't sell 25K tickets, but I could easily see 10-15K LSU fans making the trip, especially since it's an easy destination and would be less expensive to get to than some of the others. We also have a sizable alumni presence in Houston, which would help with ticket sales.

LSU's best crowd would be NRG due to the location. We didn't travel well at all for the Outback Bowl, so I'm not sure why people assume LSU would bring a better crowd to another Florida bowl named after a corporation. West Virginia sounds like an awful matchup, given LSU just finished a series with WVU. Hell, give me Minnesota in Florida over that.

Plus, it's the University of Texas. That alone would be a nice draw for LSU. It helps with recruiting athletes and out of state students. LSU owes UT payback from 2002, and it's just a big brand to kick the shite out of.

However, didn't the fact we already played in Dallas to start 2012 factor into LSU not getting the Cotton Bowl bid? Other than the Johnny Football craze, of course...

normally I agree with you, but honestly I don't see anyone elated at our options. It sucks, because a win over the flagship changes everything. Our options are dreadful, and they're even more dreadful given these companies have zero shame and the name the entire bowl after their company name.

I think it was more about getting Johnny Football than anything else. There was also the allure of trying to get a Texas/A&M match up, which the Cotton Bowl tried like hell for, but ultimately couldn't make happen. They got 1/2 of the game they wanted. Getting OU was a consolation prize.
