1. I thought Storm Warren and Malcolm White would be strengths for us this year, but they have both really been struggling. Hopefully White is just shaking off the rust and Storm is just getting back healthy.

2. We play 9 deep mostly, and occasionally 10 deep. Could go 11 deep when Dennis Harris returns. Very deep with solid, not spectacular bench. Populist (a walk-on) and Courtney are the really only weak links on the bench, and they would be No. 11 and No. 12.

3. I was very impressed with Ludwig and (gasp!) Garrett Green. Ludwig reminds me of Ricky Blanton. To keep from being completely stereotypical, I searched my mind for a black player to compare Ludwig to. The one I kept coming back to was Tasmin Mitchell. Ludwig will probably never be the scorer Tas was, but they both not great athletes, but are very smart players. Good passers and very scrappy. Green and Ludwig should get the start against Centenary, as a reward and to light a fire under White and Warren.

4. Dotson and Turner are both very impressive. Dotson is a totally different player this year.

5. Our offense works best when Chris Bass is at the point and penetrating. Stringer has gone a little cold at times, but he gets to the line a lot and is a great FT shooter. I think he has been fouled shooting a 3 in three straight games. If their skills could be melded together, that would be a nice player.

6. Derenbecker is struggling, but I have seen some flashes.

7. Overall, I'm happy with the team so far. I expected this year to be a struggle, so I'm not just looking at wins and losses. The SEC sucks this year, so probably 8 of the teams in the league are equal to or worse than we are. We could still eak out a decent season. I still say 8-8 in the SEC, with an NIT bid.

My issue with Bass at PG is he is NO threat to score. NONE. He is also a terrible foul shooter. To be honest if Stringer lost about 10 pounds he'd be a lot quicker. He can shoot and he and get to the line and convert.

White and Warren are having major ball handeling issues right now. Neither can shoot jumpers. They have to get the ball fed to them next to the basket to make shots. They are also in foul trouble very often.

Stringer penetrated a lot better this game. I like what I am seeing in him. Bass has shown some improvement, however, but he IS a terrible shooter and an even worse free throw shooter.

I was encouraged, however, we need to clean up some sloppy play. I'd like to see hte tempo pick up a little bit and a LOT more rebounding.

I think we out rebounded Memphis. Could be wrong.

I think the stats were pretty close to being even, I was really encouraged on how the team didn't let the game get outta hand and also the ball handling and turnovers improved while playing a much more athletic and pressure type ball club. If our big guys can stop getting so many ticky tack fouls i think we beat Memphis last night, i was also proud of our effort and taking so many charges inside. Turner and Stringer will be a hell of a combination for years to come and they can really fill it up and Dotson has improved tremendously...I think if White and Storm can play up to potential a NIT berth isn't too much to ask.

Bass is not a scorer, but each time he penetrated against Memphis, something good happened. I think it was 3 or 4 times. Also, when he plays point, the opposition can stop pressing, because he speeds up the court before he can get trapped.

Ludwig is probably the smartest player on the court. He has zero athleticism unfortunately. He tried a dribble drive against Memphis that was downright embarrassing. Great passer and good rebounder.

I thought the free throw shooting sucked.....LSU will not break even in the SEC,. I don't see 8 sec teams worse than LSU.....this team? has a long way to go....

I see it too, but he has a slow windup and release on his shot. He needs to correct that next offseason more than anything

Hotep, I feel very similar to you.

Going into this season I didn't think Storm would be that great. He only did well last year against teams with very small players. He was never very good at playing fundemental defense and has 0 post moves.

I was so suprised with Greens play but I have said by the time Eddie leaves LSU he will have a season averaging 8pts 6reb or so just because he knows exactly where to be at the right time.

I have been probably the only person who has thought Bass should start this season and I still think he should. I love stringers ability to shoot but I think Dotson, Turner and Stringer should share the 2 and 3 spots most of the time.

Bass has had the highest assist - turnover ratio the past 2 years in the SEC... That was with 0 shooters. With this years team he could really get some assist numbers up if he had the minutes. he gets penetration and kicks out so well and would be a special PG if he could learn to shoot free throws.

We need more out of White. Simple as that. He has to make some post moves to keep our shooters open. He also needs to keep out of foul trouble.

Getting harris back should be a biiiig boost if he comes back in good form, but I am a little worried about him coming off injury. I felt he would start at the 3 and play significant time at 4... I still think he could come in and really open up the offense and he has so much length for defense and causing turnovers.

Overall I have been pleasantly happy with the start even though we have a 2-2 record. This team will get so much better by the end of the year and should contend for the west next year. I think we contend this year for the west if we mature as fast as I think is possible. Getting a solid Harris back will be huge and if we could get Darenbecker to play like he did in the loss to Nicholls then we have a 11-12 deep team with good role players and good star players.

LSU is currently 5th in the SEC in free throw shooting, less than 1 percentage point from 3rd. WTF are you talking about?
