Better question is why is our ooc schedule still so weak? We have the best player is the country and our best non sec game is Marquette. Playing difficult teams will only prepare us more for the tournement.

I'm pretty sure Oklahoma is ranked in the top 10.

SEC Basketball scheduling was completely revamped this season, thus nothing the past few years had any effect on this season's SEC scheduling.

The 18 games now consists of playing each of the other 13 SEC once. After that each team plays 3 teams twice every year. LSU's three are Alabama, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. Then they rotate out the last two teams that we play twice.

While I would have loved to see a huge name come to the pmac in december, our non-conference schedule overall is not too bad. Wake will probably be decent this year, the nyc games will be good and OU is a top 10 team. I absolutely hate having bottom 300 teams like mcneese on the schedule though. They do nothing but kill your strenth of schedule. Those type teams are only on the schedule because someone was either too lazy or they're just bad at their job.

Yeah, these are killer. The couple of good teams we've scheduled are pretty much negated by these. I'm not one of the nostalgic Dale guys here, but one thing I'll give him, he scheduled tough and it was good for the fans and his team.

Johnny could take a page there.

This is my only problem with our scheduling under Jones. Just get the ~200 teams not the 300+ teams... Just can't do it.

Well to be fair, LSU's best non-conf. game is Oklahoma in January. However, I gnerally agree with you about the schedule. This the most national/local interest in LSU basketball in years. NCAAT birth last year; Preseason top 25; Top 10 freshman class; the presumptive #1 player in the country, and the best they could do at home in Nov./Dec is a Wake Forest team picked to finish in the bottom 1/4th of the ACC?

I just don't understand what people saying this OOC schedule is "good" are looking at? Oklahoma is the only thing that saves it and we can thank ESPN for that. NC State is a projected to be a mid-tier ACC team. ASU is picked near the bottom of the Pac-12. Marquette will be improved from their last place finish last season. However, they are still picked to finish in the middle of the Big East. Houston (on the road) should be improved, but they are still projected as a middle of the pack AAC team. Oral Roberts is a decent team, but that's not going to get the casual fan to show up. North Florida is the only opponent picked to possibly win their conf. But most people don't even know the University of North Florida exists

The selection committee has shown time and time again that they will reward teams for playing a tough OOC schedule, even if they lose a few of those games. Unless this schedule ends up being better than it looks on paper (admittedly last year's schedule did with Old Dominion, WVU, UMass and UAB exceeding expectations), LSU isn't going to have much room for error in Nov./Dec. Still, with expectations high and Simmons on board, it's a bit dissapointing that LSU couldn't get someone like a Notre Dame, Purdue, Baylor, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, to the PMAC (teams like Duke, UNC, Kansas are pipe-dreams). IMO, Jones missed an opportunity to really capitalize on the early excitement coming in to this basketball season. A big name OOC game in mid-December while football was in a bit of a lull would have been great

Am I missing something? I am only coming up with 16 SEC with that scenario.
