LSU basketball - What about Bob Marlin

If Johnny Jones would happen to get canned after another dissapointing season could Marlin be a viable candidate? I really think he's done pretty well at ULL considering the amount of talent he has to work with . He seems to recruit pretty well and I know he guided Sam Houston state to the tourney and got ULL there in 2014. He's groomed some pretty talented players and his teams seem to be pretty disciplined. Just an observation I have made, I may be way off but he has to be a better Xs and Os guy compared to Johnny Jones . What do y'all think ?

I agree. I'm about to walk into their game right now..very disciplined and they play hard (watched them before tonight). He recruits well and knows how to put players in the right positions for them to succeed..I'm interested to see how they do in conference bc they have some good teams..

80% of HS coaches in Louisiana are better tacticians than JJ.

South Dakota State went to the frickin tourney...

A realistic option might be Steve Prohm at Iowa St. Young guy (42) who's had success at Murray St and Iowa St. Strong LA ties coaching under Billy Kennedy at Centenary and Southeastern for 7 years. Asst. at Tulane for 1. Still recruits LA and his primary recruiter at ISU is a Mississippi native with connections to MS, LA

Plz no and if Tulane can get Mike Dunlevey why cant we get somebody better?

Sadly, just about any Div 1 caliber coach would be a step up from Jones. You should expect Alleva to make the most unimaginative and cheap hire possible. I'd look for a recently fired SEC head coach, a bottom tier head coach with LSU ties, or possibly an important assistant for a decent but not great team.

Jesus what is it with you people and Alabama Asst.??

Probably an upgrade over JJ but no. Just...no. JJ had similar success at north Texas. It's not like Marlin is dominating his conference either

ISU is a much better basketball job than LSU.

My God NO!!!!
Marlin is less impressive than Johnny Jones. Many Cajun fans wanted this guy fired. Hell the man lost to Montana State this year.
When you hire a coach start at the top and work your way down. You don't start from the bottom and work your way up.
Marlin is at the bottom!

This! When we hire the coaches at better basketball schools in much more hoops passionate conferences are not going to step down to come here.
If and when we'll have to get an up and comer from the lower ranks and other than Torina who JA kinda fell arse backward into getting, he has not shown me as having the vision or wherewithal to find the right one.

If South Carolina can pull Frank Martin, we can pull their new head coach.

Prohm makes 1.5 million at ISU, the same thing Jones makes at LSU. You're telling me LSU couldn't give Prohm a significant bump in salary? Also, ISU is only a "better" job than LSU right now because ISU has made two good coaching hires recently (Hoiberg and Prohm). Before that ISU had Greg McDermont (current Creighton HC) who couldn't win there.
LSU is only the right coaching hire away from being a good program again. Prohm is from GA. Graduated from Bama. Has several guys on his staff from the south. Coached extensivly in Louisiana. ISU is a solid program in a good conference, but it's always going to be second-fiddle to Iowa in that state. Also, I'm sure it's a lot easier to find great basketball players in LA, MS, TX, than it is in Iowa and the surrounding areas (except maybe Chicago)
LSU has money. It's in a power Conf that's begging for a program to step up and challenge UK. LSU is only a "step down" because the last two HC's haven't been worth a damn

other programs that care more about basketball and whose program has a pulse will match what LSU could offer, including ISU.
He'll take one of those.

sadly, UL is a better job. he has just as good players and you dont have to play kentucky in the sun belt. not to mention the new cajundome is one of the nicest basketball facilities in america. and he makes a good salary.
he aint going no where

So many wannabe AD's on this board. Of course very few of them can agree who our next coach should be. All of this of course before we ever fire the current one, LOL!
