Oh... My bad. I'll repost with "ell said" added in to make it different. Or not.

Or there's just nowhere else to put him during a scrimmage.

If we were playing Stony Brook we could play Scivique at CF. Might have been an upgrade.

Question out of curiosity. What ever happened to Sewald? Attrition? Couldn't cut it in the classroom? Kid seemed to take somewhat of a leadership role on the team with the post game speeches and whatnot, and next thing you know he's gone. Odd.

He's at LSU-Eunice now

We've all seen what Sciv can and can't do at 1B. Why not play a contender for the 1B position?

Because Scivicque IS a contender at first base at least for now. He might not be come next February but he's in the mix for first base for this fall practice.

If Coach really has Sciv in the mix for a 1B spot, it is a head scratcher. Of course he played him there last year, so maybe he'll do it again. Sciv at 1B cost us a game late in the season last year. If I remember correctly, it was right after Coach pinch hit Moore and put Moore at C instead of moving Sciv to C and putting Moore at 1B. I am not bashing Sciv. I am critical of Coach for putting Sciv in a position to fail.

A few of us were scratching our heads at that one. Definitely not the best situation for Sciv. And I agree. That's on PM, not him.

But who was pitching for us, a righty or lefty? Savy coaches also set the defense accordingly.

Scivicque is definitely a C/DH-- not 1B. Just like Tyler Moore and Chris Chinea are/were 1B/DH-- not C. I never understood acting like those guys were interchangeable at C and 1B. They clearly have different skill sets.

Explain to me what this means...

I never thought Moore was any good at catcher either. I much preferred him at first base. I thought he was terrific there.

Who would you have caught?

I wanted him at first, too, FWIW. With Sciv catching. That was our best defense. But he was definitely not bad at catcher. Which is the position he was drafted for.

The Mets disagree.

He was a solid option at 1B, no doubt. MUCH better than Sciv and Chinea.

Moore will end up at 1B. His tools at C are average at best, no slant to what he has done while at LSU

The Mets disagree.

Then why did the Mets play Moore at second and first base more than twice as many innings than he played at catcher last season?

Moore was an excellent 1B IMO. He has the footwork, etc that Chinea and Sciv lack for the position. Moore was the SS on the Marucci Elite team and was always an excellent infielder. His ability to play 1B probably cost him time at C IMO. But I still maintain that Coach just had something against playing him.

I respect your opinion on his skills at C, but how do you explain the Mets drafting him where they did as a C?
