I'm up in Maryland on business and a guy walks in the elevator this morning and says geaux tigers as soon as he gets on (sees my LSU shirt and hat). Tells me his son is going to be a freshman at LSU, I ask the last name and he says Slaughter. Found out Jake's up here playing summer ball in the Cal Ripken League and they're staying at the same hotel. Looked up videos and saw Jake hit a bomb a few nights ago that looked real pretty LINK.

While I'm not sure how well he's been playing the rest of summer, I could tell the family is good people. I wish them the best of luck for this summer and Jake a good start at LSU

Slaughter is a great name for a ball player.

His grandpa played QB for LA Tech in early 60's, and had a brief career with the Denver Broncos. He was later OC at Tech and coached Terry Bradshaw, Phil Robertson, and Kramer's dad Randy Robertson, who was a QB from BR.

His name is Mickey Slaughter. Jake's dad is Michael Slaughter who played for Tech in late 80's.

Josh Smith and Jake Slaughter are both playing collegiate summer league ball, which is pretty rare for kids who have just graduated HS. Gausman is the only other guy that I know of that has done that for LSU.

Sounds like a great family history. Also seems that Jake wants to get away from Tech if everyone from his family is a Tech grad . I really wish I could have chatted with Michael for longer this morning but I unfortunately was in a rush on my way to work. I may check with the front desk if they're still here next week when my work load drops off to see if they have any questions about LSU before the fall/how Jakes doing this summer.

ETA: May try and go watch a game tomorrow or Monday, realized they're playing at home (where I am) and it's better than sitting in the hotel room

No offense to Tech, but the opportunity to play at LSU made his decision a no brainer I would imagine.

Mickey was my Sunday school teacher in high school. Great man. I have full confidence in anyone from his family, happy to have them as Tigers
