I talked to a former player last night about the hire. His quote about Treloar -- "His basketball knowledge is unmatched and he knows how to maximize all of his player's potential. Workaholic, no ego, just a winner."

Said he is really great with player development and enjoys getting in extra work with the guys who aren't necessarily the stars. At least that was his role when he was a player under him. Stated he will be a favorite of the players and will be there to help anyone at anytime they need it.

Since he's been here maybe the best thing Jones has done is hire good assistants. Haven't had any complaints with the hiring of Patrick, Kirby, Musselman and now Trelor. McCray might have been the only "miss", but even that wasn't really a bad hire.

One hole (Musselman leaving) has filled for next year. The next is hopefully finding someone who can help rebound and defend inside.

The time for excuses and wait "till next year" is over. I'm not saying LSU should be expected to make it to the Final Four or win the title, but there is no reason this team shouldn't be competing for the SEC Title. None!

It's off-season and it's an assistant. I tweeted something out about how Treloar was big in the development of Garrett Temple and he (GTemp) retweeted it... Guessing that means he agrees.

yeah, but you can't help but feel a new football assistant would get more headlining times. We need to keep LSU basketball a year round discussion, because you either post on tigerdroppings or you lurk like crazy

Pheonomenal hire. Anybody that was a part or had insight into the program when Treloar was on staff knows how great of a hire this is. All been said, but guy is fantastic basketball mind, hard worker, respectful(and very respected) and gets the best out of the kids.

I hear ya. We can just talk basketball in here enough to keep it near the top.

Yea. I just listened to the segment on ESPN radio where John Brady talked about the hire...

LINK

Really good stuff. Talks about how influential Tre was in the final four team. I'm really excited.

Nice find.

Tough to hate Brady these days. gotta love he still cheers for LSU. I'll always be thankful for that Final 4 run. That might have been the most fun run for me other than the 2011 football season pre 1/9/12

Yeah, and Brady even admitted he should have handled some things differently back then. I was never much of a fan of Brady but he really does say nice things about LSU and doesn't harbor any ill feelings for the way it ended, at least outwardly. I wish him well.

Yeah, "hate" wasn't the right word. I was definitely too young to appreciate his tenure. Just some unbelievably huge blown leads and inconsistencies were so frustrating.

Firing Brady was the right move, but the TJ experiment was humbling and put the brady era in perspective for me

History will be kind to John Brady's time at LSU. He came into a horrible situation and replaced the best coach in LSU basketball history who had led the program to unprecedented success. It's only after 7 years of little to no success (1 SEC Title with Brady's roster; 2 NCAAT appearance and 1 NCAAT win during that time) that people can look back and say "maybe he wasn't THAT bad"

Still it was time for a change as the pattern of wild inconsistency had run its course. It's almost as if the powers that be are saying "man, if we could have just had Johnny as the HC with Brady's assistants, we might have been on to something."

It was. Brady was a good coach who could not get along with people very well. He alienated pretty much everyone at every level. Can sustain leadership with that environment.

Almost, but some...including me think CJJ is very hands on so the dynamic with the assistants is a bit of a mystery.
