LSU AD Clearly Does Not Understand Economic Substitution: Parking

LSU is now going to charge around 80-85% of those attending Football Games for parking starting in the 2011 season. Currently I'd put that number around 40-45% with the reserved and RV lot spaces.
The overwhelming majority of these individuals will supplement the $750+ in expenses for a trailer/truck in 2011 by cutting back in other areas.
For instance, I will not be purchasing 2011 Basketball Season Tickets as I had once planned nor will I up my TAF, LSU Foundation, and LSU Alumni Association contributions as planned in 2011 as well. I'm certain I'm not the only one.
For an AD with a heavy Business background, Alleva missed the boat here.

you sure do find a different way to whine about this every day

These are tough times
LSU is asking the Athletic department for more money, and so they are forced to find it somewhere. Nobody likes it, but it is what it is.

Well I believe it was handled very poorly. Is it wrong for me to express my opinion on something I disagree with?
FWIW, I've never once "whined".

Like a savings account, right?
Nah...that would be too simple. We're talking about $1.7 Million from a group that has an operating budget far exceeding that.
And I've never once opposed charging, just the manner and the mechanisms for which it is being done.

I too am cutting my annual donation by my parking fee. I put on a tailgate for one game a year. So I will deduct 80 dollars from my total.

by charging for something that was free? Its a horrible call if it results in less revenue. If the amount brought in from the parking is greater than the loss somewhere else because someone like you doesn't get BB tickets than its good business.

I would guess the majority of the people he will charge will cut back in other areas like car insurance and doctor visits.

The only other thread I've started on this was the email account for people to share their opinions, FWIW.
And something tells me in a few years when LSU's "tough economic times" are behind them, we will see these parking charges and trailer fees reduced, right?

How much do they have and what does the future hold as far as renovations/updating? I've heard Alleva is pretty determined to get this North Stadium Drive Plaza project started by the end of the 2011 season. How much is that going to cost?

It will be interesting to see how it turns out when 2012 TAF renewals come through. After increased operating expenses and substitution from other areas, we'll see how it goes.

right! but when they bounce back; will they will still charge for parking!

Eh, people will still tailgate, but that number will be down. Especially given our slate of home games next year, and a number of long road trips in 2011.

You are right Golfer. It's a recession, our discrepancy spending ain't what it used to be and if it's basketball tickets or contributions or the family vacation, I wonder what is going to win?

I don't think I've ever heard of a business that said, "Ya know, we've made plenty of money, lets give some back."

I think expirience shows us people (especially in La ) piss and moan and complain about stuff like this, but very few will stop tailgating or give less or cut something else out etc. They gripe, but will pay in the end.

quote:exactly. while some on here think the numbers of tailgaters will go down, I think it stays the same. and on top of that, I think they start getting to campus earlier to try and take advantage of the free parking lots. I actually think the LSU tailgating scene is going to come out better when its all said and done
