Well somebody besides Travinski, White and Jones have to be capable of handling D1 pitching.

I think Brasswell is hitting better, in terms of average, than Trav and Jones in SEC play

This made me look at SEC stats

LSU leads the SEC in 3 categories: caught stealing, striking out & striking out looking

LINK

My bad, we are tied for # 1 for not giving up any triples

Kind of strange seeing a JJ team struggle so much on offense.

Aside from White and Travinsky, LSU really doesn’t have any dogs in the fight. Everyone is a sit-downer it seems.

Nola.com Koki

quote:

"(Holman) threw (104) pitches (against Florida)," Johnson said. "And we're not a very good team if he's not pitching for us. And so we need to keep him on full rest... that's the only reason.

quote:

We still have work to do, we still can get a lot better," Hayden Travinski said.

quote:

I think there were a few good at-bats throughout the game. (But) I don't think we've played on caliber that we're capable of on the offensive side yet this season," Travinski said. "Yeah, I don't think it was necessarily a step forward."

quote:

We faced the two best pitchers probably in the country here in these last two SEC games," Johnson said. "And I thought today was much better than Sunday."

quote:

Same thing as the offense, we just have to be consistent from guy to guy," Travinski said. "(We) can't fall behind in counts because then hitters can get their swings off."

quote:

It comes back to bite you, free bags win games," Travinski said. "So if they're not in our favor, the odds usually aren't."

quote:

There were parts of (tonight's pitching performance) that were really good, I think," Johnson said. "Much like the Saturday game against Florida, we were just a pitch or an out away."

Arky reporter Koki retweeted (re-x’d)?

quote:

Spoke with LSU coach Jay Johnson after Arkansas' win tonight. He called Hagen Smith "one of the best pitchers I've ever faced in my entire career." "I hope we get to face him again at some point. That would be good for our team."

Last year's team was just so loaded.

I knew we'd take a step back, but I didn't expect some of these struggles we're having.

We've got to do something different in CF. We're struggling too much on offense to keep running Kling out there at this point, imo. I know others don't okay CF as well as him, but it's hard to watch him when we're already struggling at the plate.

Pretty much. I knew we weren't winning the SEC this year, but I thought we would have performed better than we have so far. It's still a long season, though.

LSU leads the SEC in 3 categories:

I think you looked at this wrong

quote:

caught stealing

that is correct

quote:

striking out

LSU batters are 7th in strikeouts

LSU pitchers are first in striking out the opposing batters

If you look under pitching in the LSU cumulative stats, you see that the total, 322, matches how many batters our oitchers struck out.

It also appears these are totals for the season, not only in SEC play. I think LSU looks much worse in SEC only stats

quote:

striking out looking

Again, I'm pretty sure that stat is our pitchers striking out their hitters looking

ESPN is not completely clear in their layout

Went pretty well until that Guidry pitch. No complaints from me

We were in the game until the three run homer. I agree.

I normally comment on umpires because I was a basketball official for 25 plus years. But this guy was totally bad. Maybe he just had a bad night. It takes a lot of talent, or kissing up to get to the level of Div 1 officiating. But as I said he was awful

Comments are sure surprising on the rant. Some people said that the game was enjoyable, even with 19 ks. I know I talked to the TV a lot.
