It's not for everyone. My little one loves it so we go. No need to rip it. If its not your thing...great.

There's nothing at all wrong with this. I remember going to the Spring Game with my Sunday School class in the 1970's; it was fun. But for folks to gripe about other folks not going to a glorified practice is just silly.

People go to spring games when there are new coaches, new offences, or new qbs. We have none of those. Not a bad thing as long as the real games have ppl

This, especially the last part. As long as that stadium is packed and loud in the fall, filling the stadium means absolutely nothing.

People go to Tiger Stadium for that game day atmosphere, which isn't there for a practice. I think we are one of the schools that has it right. Why go deal with all of the headaches of a game that isn't really a game?

Side note, I did like the new format which basically dictates the offense has to play from behind and defense has to hold a lead in the second half.

Nothing needs to be done. It just shows we have more going on here than they do in shitholes like Starkville or Tuscaloosa.

I agree with this. They way they did it this year made it much more watchable. Before it just got shitty in the second half. This way the starters played throughout the whole thing.

absolutely NOTHING. It's the Spring Game. It's a televised practice to show the world that "hey, football is still around, it's just going slower and doesn't matter very much right now, because it's practice time."

just because we have a crazed fan-base and rabid fans does not mean we need to show up en masse to the Spring Game. we aren't Alabama or Georgia. we don't need to continually and publicly profess our faith to the Football Program. they know the fans are there behind them.

this isn't a big deal....

I know for a fact that coaching staffs at schools like Bama, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, etc all use their attendance numbers & year round exposure to their recruits.
If only we could be like them.
In real games vs real opponents, LSU was 4th nationally in '14 and '15, 2nd SEC to aTm, so rumors of our demise are greatly exaggerated, sorry.

For those of you who wish to pin some imaginary dropoff in SG attendance to LSU Staff, Miles et. al. own the #1 attendance......... and likely the top 5 spots all time, plus highest avg for any LSU coach (no time to substantiate such trivial shite).

Stop giving a shite about what people do for a glorified practice.

Also, they were competing against FQ Fest, LSU baseball playing @ Mizz (had a great LSU turnout), LSU softball, and LSU gymnastics going for the championship.

Also, it was televised, so I'm sure that took away a lot of the crowd that didn't want to travel or sit in the sun for a practice.

What needs to be done?

We almost did it at the end of last season, but the 5 we love Les signs on TV tipped the scale. Such short memories.

Spring game that Miles waters down, count me out!
I have better things to do, especially during spring time.
I can wait to watch finished product in September.

So having a larger Spring Game attendance builds LSU's image in your eyes?

Not my eyes. But in the eyes of recruits & future regular students, yes.

How we old alums/fans feel doesn't matter, in the grand scheme of things. But how youth perceives our school & athletics program is what matters. We stop concentrating on what matters to them & we will lose out in the long run.

Case in point: LSU Admissions office is reporting a 32% drop in out of state applications for February & March 2016 compared to the same 2 months in 2015.
In state apps are down 28% over the same time period.
All of this on the heels of the state budget crisis/TOPS nonsense & the Miles fiasco.

I have never once heard a recruit say he chose or did not choose a school because of the number of people at the spring game.

I'm from out of state, and I assure you, spring game attendance had absolutely zero effect on my decision. What I knew of LSU athletics before attending, I knew from watching real games on national TV, on the biggest stages. Not from scrimmages.

Obviously it is NOT the end all be all factor. But then again, common sense is abundant on the Rant.

It is a factor. It is a recruiting tool. It is that simple.

The people at the game are not a factor. The spring game is a recruiting tool to get the kids on campus and to be able to visit them, but so is spring practice visits. Those guys visiting could care less about the number of people in the stands while they are visiting.

I see no correlation between SG attendance and following year recruiting rank.
2015 SG attendance was lowest in 6 years and followed up by #3 ranked 2016 class with quite a few OoS recruits.
The spring game sky isn't falling anyway as attendance is up around 30% over last year.
