1979 USC/LSU --Yep the gold standard--I was there and at most of the others also. Believe me nothing has compared to it in Tiger Stadium-Even though it was a close loss, that last drive by USC-(who was#1 at the time and finished the season#1) to win with the phantom face mask call on 4th down against LSU was off the charts for loudness!! Your TIGERS were pulling hard that nite!!!

We were ther. Entire OT period was loud, especially when he nailed the upright !

Did you see right before the skylar green return it said that brady quinn set the nd quarterback record for pass td at 20 ... is that serious????? thats only like week 6 and i cant believe that 20 was the record????

As someone else said, the 1979 USC is the gold standard. I have to believe the 1997 Florida has to rank as one of the loudest, too. That game was absolutely surreal....it was a VERY special night in Tiger Stadium.

Yup. I was there. It was electric. When Twillie sealed it the roar was back.

I
Been to about 100 games in South upper 19, and that game was the only time I ever had to cover my ears because of the pain.

"1997 Florida game" I agree with this. It was as you say the perfect storm of stadium noise. No one expected LSU to be able to stay on the field with uf esp following the great escape at Vandy the week before and that cocky Spurrier simply had his way with LSU. They were #1 and the defending Nat'l champs and had a 25 game win streak going. It was a bitter loss for them but oh so sweet for LSU and all the longsuffering fans. After one of our td's the kickoff was fumbled deep in UF territory preceeding our next td I remember looking around at the stadium in absolute pandemonium and thinking this place is coming apart at the seams. I was almost a little scared. I was there with my late father down near the floor of the stadium near the 50 yard line. It was an amazingly loud, crazy game and one that I'll cherish for the rest of my life!

This thread got me thinking about the '05 Auburn game and I remembered this...
The week after the game a Facebook group was created to kick off a grassroots Heisman campaign for John Vaughn. At the time the Heisman fan voting site allowed write in votes and I believe he made it all the way to 8-10 until they figured out what was going on and removed him from the list. LSU students at their best...

03 Georgia when they scored in the 4th. The LSU chant that followed was insane. It was crazy loud.

TS has had a reputation for being loud for as long as I can remember. However, I question how someone can compare crowd noise across decades or venues unless there is some gross disparity.
That said, aome other moments that have gotten passed over are:
- '76 vs #1 Nebraska (ended in 6-6 tie).
- '07 OT vs Arky

When it came down to that last play for the game, AU called a timeout, so everything just built to a crazy crescendo. When Twillie intercepted that ball, it was amazing. That was the loudest moment for me personally in Tiger Stadium.
That game was the longest sustained noise that I ever remember in Tiger Stadium from the pregame to an hour after the game. That was a stadium full of fans desperate for winning to return. If you recall that was the game that the auburn QB (was it Nix) thought he heard a whistle and just stood in the endzone as Gillyard planted him. OL Ben Bordelon told me that the stadium was so loud after the game, that they couldn't even hear in the locker room.

Yeah, Cecil had broken his leg the week before and everyone was in a deep depression. The media was predicting a blowout, but there was something in the air that day. People were so jacked up early in the day tailgating - you could just sense that it wasn't going to be a normal night. I remember reading an article that said the only time Steve Spurrier's wife ever became unnerved at a visiting game was at this one when LSU fans started shaking their bus after the game. That whole game was extremely loud - LSU fans were so hungry and so was the team.
I forgot about the Bring Back the Magic Game - DiNardo had a few of the best moments ever in Tiger Stadium history and I'm thankful to him for that. That game was so loud. It's one of the hottest ones I ever remember as well.
The 2001 Auburn game in December to see who would go to the SEC Championship after the 9/11 cancellation was one of the wildest and most fun games ever. The build-up to that one and pregame was unbelievable. Then you had Auburn getting penalized before the start of the game (which I had never seen before and never seen since), Saban starting the game with the onsides kick, Auburn's kicker getting into a shoving match with the Golden Band while still doing their routine...hilarious.

"Bring back the magic" was my first game as a student at LSU....hell of a night...then tigerband had to try to get on the busses the nest morning for the Saints game against ATL. It was Morten Anderson's first game as a Falcon against the Saints. He beat the Saints with a FG in overtime. All of Tigerband was hungover passed out behind the Saints bench.
Still though, nothing compares IMO to this moment in the 2007 Florida game:
LINK
The sustained noise level through that entire TV timeout was pretty amazing. Nobody does Schadenfreude better than LSU fans.

The song on iTunes, "One Second Blues" has the radio commentating of the last drive of this game. You can barely hear the announcer the entire time, and when LSU scores he's screaming his arse off and you can't hear him at all. That game must have been unreal.
