I noticed he was quietly listed as one of the top reserves in the new hybrid H-back position behind Moore and Moreau. He was pretty impressive coming out of high school. Interested to see what he can do when he gets the ball in space. I would assume we will see some multi-H-Back formations. This is an excerpt from an SEC Country article about a month ago:

quote:

At Pitt, Canada used a constant barrage of multi-tight end and H-Back sets (or up backs) in a variety of different formations and alignments. They were fullback/tight end hybrids who lined up anywhere and everywhere, blocking, catching and running. The Trojan horse-style shovel pass harnessed all of that.

The concept of the play is simple: A shovel pass masquerading as a veer-option, with a lead blocker clearing an avenue for the H-Back.

Ducre averaged 8.3 yards per carry his senior season (almost 1,600 yards rushing and 21 TDs). He was a top 10 player in Louisiana in 2015, and was the top rated FB in the nation that year. He's no joke. He's been languishing because we ran a Stone Age offense, so literally five offensive players per game were getting touches (3 RBs, 2 WRs), and he was running behind two of the best running backs in LSU history. So with Darrell Williams and Nick Brossette getting touches, he was never getting the ball.

we have had lots of running backs who didn't languish in our "stone age offense", including, most recently, LF and D. Guice.
what is it about that offense that held back Ducre and not others?

Well, he's not a tailback for starters.

He'll be starting by mid-season. Dude runs a 4.2 forty. He's a black Jacob Hester.

We've been fortunate with our backs. An embarrassment of riches if you will... I loved Hester...

But, the measurables on Ducre are fricking crazy...Canada is licking his chops. We finna eat fellas.

Wheels fell off the Short Bus Offense.
Them days are no more.

Geaux Tigers!

I'm very much looking forward to how Canada utilizes all the weapons LSU has at different positions on the field and on specific down/distance. 1-10 you will see different personnel then 3-4 or 3-9. We will likely see different personell at our own 20 then the 50. Then we will likely see much different formations and personell for redzone then goal-line. Being aggressive in all areas but then pulling the reigns back at certain times while appearing to be aggressive. I have much more confidence in Canada running this offense then I've had with Cam Cameron.

It's going to be a very tough game for BYU not only physically but mentally as well. They were not very physical against an FCS team BUT even if they can turn it up against LSU, will they be able to stay in the right positions while being physical with LSU? They will have a lot to deal with IMO. If they focus too hard on Guice then that will likely open things up for another athlete who can hurt them. Can't wait to see it on the field for the first time.

I think Etling will be great in this offense. He's got the brains for it. And we know he's tough after enduring what he did all last season.

If I remember correctly he had a very good performance.in last years spring game.

I really want to see him get a fair opportunity. Hell of physical specimen; big strong and fast.

I was excited about Ducre coming out, but at this point, I have zero expectations for any kind of breakout season. If he was good, he would have gotten on the field by now. Word is he is soft, right. I'm not sure that plays in any SEC offense, no matter the coordinator.

He’s not a Miles-type power FB, and was never going to be. He is a big RB, and never got a shot at that position because of how deep we were when he got here.

Even though he still isn’t playing RB, the way Canada uses H-Backs, FBs and TE should suit his style much better.

So why wasn't he playing special teams? Were they stone aged, too.

Like Drake Davis, he clearly has the ability to be a star. Like Davis, he has tons of infatuated fans. The truth is that each are missing something...heart, intelligence, motivation. I don't know what, but so far it's been missing.

He is apparently way behind Moreau, Moore, and Mouton here. Like the other guy said, being a good football player--especially one as athletic as him--translates at the very least to special teams. I've got no reason to believe he's a very good football player at this point. At least not at this level. Not everyone is. I wish him the best. Maybe a light will come on. I won't be holdings breath, though.

"LaJacob" is from my hometown. (Mandeville)

I have been commenting for years on here, with his size and speed, as to the possible reasons why he wasn't a Running Back getting touches in every game. (Didn't know the playbook and assignments, lazy, didn't go to class)

He's not that far down the list. Mouton is the one way down the list.
