Looking at the negative: Is overconfidence a potential problem?

Few qualifiers:
1. I'm on board a 100%. Stated before McNeese game LSU wins Natty.
2. I think we roll Syracuse
3. I'm not in the locker rooms so this is fan speculation.
But...this board has been way too positive so I'll bring up some counterpoints.
Young players have not been at LSU long and likely don't consider the historical context that we fans do. Most key players cut their teeth last year, a relatively rough season and heard about it all off season. So far the revenge tour is 2/2 and LSU is now back in flavor in a big way. LF is Heisman front runner, etc. We got an early game on the road against a team everyone expects to be bludgeoned and then relatively clear sailing for the next month and a half.
Looking back at Miles' tenure, this could have the trappings of a walk though for 3 quarters and we make it WAY, WAY closer than it needs to be. We have countless examples of those games. Realistically I think this is worst case scenario, baring injuries of course.
Y'all think LSU could have a problem handling this early success going forward?

There is a chance, but I'd like to believe that LSU just roasts the competition the next 5 weeks. Makes me much more happy.

I don't think the players and coaches are as over-confident as this board. IMHO

Yes. It's a potential problem.
But I really believe this team has a lot more internal motivation and leadership than it has in recent years.
Beckwith, Adams, Fournette, Harris, and even guys that don't play all that much like Ed Paris are vocal leaders on this team.
This group seems willing to fight for wins instead of expecting them to be handed over.
I think that this game will actually be a decent barometer of our season. If they come out with fire and put this away quick, I think we'll know some more about the heart of this team.

Les Miles is good about keeping them in check, I don't think it will be a problem.

Same here, I really like the leadership on this team. They know that we have to bring our best every game if we want to reach our goals, and will help a lot to pick the team up if we come out sluggish. To be fair, we have had a "closer than it should have been" game already against MSU, but after how we played last week, I'm willing to write that off as first game issues.

Yes, fans on a message board being optimistic will, without question, present grave problems for the team down the line.

Depends on how legit their run defense is. Currently 3rd ranked in the country. Not saying a lot based on competition but if they come out stuffing him early it could be a lot closer than we want if BH can't put it on his shoulders to take pressure off LF. We still don't know what this team has in the passing game and defense has been great but the jury is still out on the new DC. Don't forget we almost lost to MSU who didn't really deserve to come back in that game. I don't think LSU right now is the best team in the SEC only because they have too many questions right now and haven't played anyone great. I still think Ole MIss is the best until LSU can show they can beat the best teams in the SEC.
At some point, stacking 9 in the box will make LF fall back to human status until LSU proves they can throw it. MSU kinda shut him down in the 4th and we almost lost the game due to how conservative we were.

That's like four "ifs"

I'm not really expecting this team to show us much this weekend but down the line when we get into the meat of the schedule is when you'll know how good LSU really is. We have plenty of questions not answered at this point and LF can't win every game himself. Harris has to be asked to win a game at some point this season and we'll know what we have at QB at that point. I think given the limited opportunities he had so far, he's throwing great. He might be making mistakes like wrong reads but it's not like he's throwing it in defender hands. Most of the time he fires it in where only the WR can catch it but they drop it. Thrown a few bad passes but at least he overthrew them so nobody gets to them.

SU's run defense is definitely solid. Not "3rd in the nation" good, but it's a young, talented, but not particularly deep front 7. Most of the guys who play are true sophomores/redshirt freshmen, with the occasional true freshman, and maybe a junior sprinkled in here and there. There's no real depth behind our top 4 DTs, or even before our top few DEs, so I can absolutely see fatigue playing a massive factor, especially since our secondary tends to give up a ton of inexcusable big plays.
Basically, our front 7 will often give us a 3rd and 8 or so, and then the secondary will immediately give up a 15 yard pass play so the front 7 stays on the field, and with so little depth, they get worn out. And then our offense (without Dungey) struggles, and they're right back out there.
I could realistically see the front 7 slowing down Fournette for the first quarter or so (I hope, at least), and then eventually he starts just running them over on his way to 150 yards because we just don't have enough horses to stop him. There's just no depth beyond our top one or two guys at most of our positions at DL or LB, which is a killer against a team that runs as well as LSU.

I agree if they come out on fire and put this game away and not let the crowd give Syracuse reason for confidence, this will tell us a lot. Look out though if they don't it could be a tough one.

I understand the concern but this hasn't really happened to the most elite of Miles' teams. If this team is who we think they are, it won't be an issue.

Overconfidence is what happened 1/9/12. People keep comparing this 2015 team to the 2011 team. So far, it looks like this 2015 team has better chemistry and trust in each other than the 2011 team did. 2011 had a lot of "me" guys (e.g. Honey Badger). Haven't seen a single "me" guy yet on this team.
This game will tell a lot about the team chemistry and selflessness, and thus the road to the 'ship.

Yes - but Les has LOTS of material over the past 3 to 5 years where games were closer than they had to be. This is a quality opponent - we should get a huge lead early and then get younger players in the game. We should play them like they're Bama until the game is over - or we're up over 5 touchdowns - whichever comes first.
I think the offense will play with confidence behind that line and the superstar - and the defense will play with confidence against and unexperienced/untested QB. They do have us in their building and they do have some good players. Taking them lightly would be a huge mistake.

I think this season is different
Fournette is running like a mad man
And after how much attention Fournette got after last week, you can bet almost every other player on the roster wants to remind the world that we aren't a one man team. I look for us to be intense in every game this year.

I feel like this is what LSU does, underestimate the opponent, they play a hell of a game, and we end up winning barely. I have seen it multiple times with LSU.

Great teams execute under pressure. When LSU executes, they are arguably unstoppable.
If they play out the season as they did against Auburn, then its got the potential to be a special year. If they play out the season the way they did the second half against State, then we might run into some issues.
