Northgate has a bunch of really great bars. We always go to Chimy's to get the night started.
Also, College Station PD does not play around when it comes to public intoxication.

Northgate bars are pretty good. The Bonfire Memorial is a must see.

The high school I went to in Baton Rouge had the same dumb rules about the grass so it's kind of ingrained in my mind to avoid walking on grass as well.
My in laws live in Georgetown, TX which is just north of Austin. Google maps says its about a 1 hour and 45 minute drive to college station so I always have that as a stopping point. I would much rather stay within walking/cabbing distance of the stadium though. I just don't know how hard or expensive it is to book a room there on gameday.

LaQuinta is already booked solid. I imagine it's going to be tough finding anything for Thanksgiving.

Walk on the grass and wear a hat inside their union.
If I ever go I plan on doing this - maybe also rubbing my arse on the grass as well.
As for a hat, I'd get a huge foam one

Stay in Huntsville...1 hour drive to college station.

I lived in College Station until a year ago when I retired.
Everything said so far is about right. CSPD doesn't play in the Northgate area when it comes to acting like a drunk fool.
The vast majority of restaurants are on University, especially between Texas Ave (Business 6) and Highway 6 bypass. Northgate is on University as well, just across the street from campus.
The bus shuttle from the mall (Highway 6 bypass & Harvey Road / SH 30) has been free and it'll drop you off about 100 yards from the stadium.
I'm driving up from Houston on game day and I'm parking with a couple of my Aggie friends with a pass in the West Campus garage. Traffic from there is no better than Tiger Stadium, but it gives me an 60-90 minutes to trash talk my Aggie friends when we win. If not, I get extra time to sleep on the way home lol.

So what exactly constitutes public intoxication? Like if I went to a bar, got hammered, and then tried to walk down the street to get a ride I would be arrested/ticketed (which is it?)?

From what I witnessed, it was mostly if you are fooling around. If you are walking down the street like a normal person, you'll be fine.
ETA: you can walk on most of the grass. It's grass in special areas that you can't walk on and and you will know when you aren't suppose to

I will NEVER see a game at College Station. I spend Thanksgiving with my family. This sucks. All to satisfy bama.
Posted on 7/25/16 at 6:38 pm to The Creaux
The Aggies played the Longhorns on Thanksgiving day every year, so it's their tradition. It has nothing to do with Bama.
Also, my family all said they are coming so I'll still be spending the day with them. We can do the turkey on Friday.

i love this game on Thanksgiving and will be making the easy drive from Austin. The atmosphere in the stadium is loud with lots of white towels waving (surrender rags?) The fans are friendly.

It's not an awful road trip (been twice). But they are a very weird fanbase.

You can also catch a rickshaw ride back to your hotel. "Free" technically but you tip appropriately.

The night before the L Club typically has an event at the Landry's Seafood
Can't remember who but typically Crush rooftop is rented out for LSU fans as well.
A few years ago there were buses bringing fans f/ the Marriott Waterway to CS

Born in Baton Rouge and have been in College Station 20 years. In the last two years about a dozen new hotels have gone up and six more are under construction. They are now overbuilt and many are waiving the two night minimum and rates are dropping.
Everyone here agrees playing on Thanksgiving Day was great when playing Texas 90 miles away but a really bad idea when playing LSU. The game did not sell out 2 years ago and will likely not sell out this year. I expect this to be the last year they play on Thanksgiving.

Let's hope you are right...friday nite game would be great...my aggie cousins have come to Baton Rouge last 2 times, think they would wear purple & gold if they came to any of our other home games...just couldn't believe the amount tailgating going on and they didn't even see but about 10% of it...

I said if you act like a drunk FOOL, CSPD doesn't play at Northgate. If you've had too much but act civilized, you'll be ok... just blend in.
