It's a travesty that Sheila Echols wasn't interviewed for this story. She was the star of that first national championship team back in 1987, she was the first female LSU alumnus to win an Olympic Gold medal in any sport and she lives here in Baton Rouge. She's every bit as important to the women's track program as Billy Cannon is to the football program and as Pete Maravich is to the men's basketball program.
