You know that an athlete has transcended his/her sport with that athlete is on the cover of non-sports magazine like TIME.

If Will Ferrell was on the cover of this olympic edition, he would have truly transcended his comedic limitations.

The fact that an Olympian is on the front of an olympic edition actually seems quite fitting.

but good for her!

Does LoLo have a legit shot at Gold this time around. I know she was the best in the world 4 years ago. Beyond the hype, what is the expectation? A medal or Gold?

Although I will be pulling hard for her (intended), I don't think she finishes higher then a bronze.

Finished 3rd in the US Trials but very elated to make the team. Also the Austraian girl is probably best in the world right now so hopefully LoLo can medal but will be difficult for her to get the gold this year IMO. Still be pulling for her and the rest of the US athletes. Geaux LoLo and

You obviously missed this new development from last weekend. Pearson's aura of invincibility has been punctured by Trials second placer Kellie Wells.

SI did a great article on her a couple of weeks ago. She's the new feel-good comeback story. Kinda like armstrong, minus the roids.

That simply does not apply here. The cover is in regard to the biggest track and and field event in human history, the Olympics. It has nothing to do with transcending a sport. In fact it embraces the sport.

I like the choice but it could have been anyone on the team from Michael Phelps to a diminutive gymnast to a boxer.

you're missing the point. its not about just slapping an Olympian on the cover. like somebody already said, Lolo is the "feel good" comeback story. we already know how good Phelps is. he has his medals
