Paid monthly over the term with the standard deduction for any earnings from a new job that he may get.
Also, if fired during the season, LSU would save the pay that he gets for his media portion of his contract.

So pretty much by firing him LSU saves 2.2 million. Seems like a pretty easy decision to me

Bump for all the misinformed. As head coach, JJ is paid $125k per month. As soon as he is fired, that will be reduced to $33.33k per month. Every month that he remains the head coach costs LSU about $92k more than if he wasn't the head coach. LSU doesn't save any money from a "reduced buyout" by waiting until after the season to fire him. The reduction of the buyout is offset by the extra months of paying him his full coaching salary.
