How can leaving the lights on generate revenue for LSU?

Actually the trainers and grounds crews were out there at 5am working. Practice and workouts start earlier than you do.

I thought the same thing last night about this as I drove past the Box. The problem is that this is a security issue. It is a deterrant to morons who might try and vandalize the place. Many businesses leave on some lighting just so criminals don't have the opportunity to steal in the dark. This is not an uncommon practice in the world, unfortunately.

How much more should we take? Les hasn't utilized his talent, Les hasn't fired Crowton, Les hasn't played RS enough, Les hasn't played enough underclassmen, Les hasn't tucked his kids into bed in 3 nights, Les hasn't taken the trash out at his house this morning, and now Les allows the athletic department to leave the lights on.

Enough is enough dammit.

Stadium lights are something you just turn on and off like a lamp in your house. They require a burn in time and you put a lot of wear and tear on the bulbs by turning on and off. I am sure they are doing the right thing.

The lights are on at the new Alex Box right now and the sun is shining brightly. Do the workers installing the new right field bleachers really need them to see what they are doing?

Meanwhile, at the OLD Alex Box, now being torn down, the lights are still on in the old scoreboard, and have been since the last UC-Irvine game. High winds tore off part of the back of the scoreboard (facing Nicholson Drive) and one can easily see the fluorescent bulbs there, still burning.

Sometimes at night the lights are on at Tiger Stadium, on one or both sides. Why? Groundskeepers at work at 9 PM? Really?

When there are night events, at the PMAC or even night games at Tiger Stadium, the lights are on at the track stadium, Alex Box, etc., to provide some extra lighting for the crowds in an area where there are few streetlights.

I'm not sure who pays for the electric bills of the stadiums, but LSU can save money by cutting down its electricty usage as many schools around the country are doing so.

LSU could make the buildings a little colder in the winter and a little warmer in the summer. Only have 1/2 the lights in a building on after 5pm. Turn off all computer labs, etc...

you do realize that it isn't as bad as you make it seem...LSU is one of only a handfull of Universities that produces 80%+ of the power they use right on campus and actually get a credit for how much they produce plus entergy pays them alittle because they use some of LSU's power as well

Everything is true except for this

LSU can't sell power to a private company

Athletics is self funded. Athletics pays LSU for utilities provided

I am well aware of the power plant and electric usage at LSU.

A few years ago LSU was inquiring about a solar panel field to power its campus like many campuses are going to. I have to run right now but there is some stipulation that LSU must use a certain amount of power from Entergy regardless of power plant. I will try to find the information when I get back. In fact there was almost a lawsuit between LSU and Entergy a couple of years ago as a result.
