All of this in their ranking coming out of high school.

Safeties:
Greg Brooks (3 star transfer from Arkansas )
Major Burns (4 star transfer from Georgia )

CBs:
Duce Chestnut (2 star transfer from Syracuse)
Zy Alexander (2 star transfer from Louisiana)

Nickle:
Andre Sam (2 star transfer from Marshall)
Sage Ryan (5 Star enrolled at LSU )

LBs:
Omar Speights (3 star transfer from Oregon State)
Greg Penn (4 star enrolled at LSU)
Harold Perkins (5 star enrolled at LSU)

DL:
Mekhi Wingo (3 star transfer from Missouri )
Jordan Jefferson (3 star transfer from WVU)
Jacobian Guillory (4 star recruit enrolled at LSU)
Parish Shand (3 star transfer from Arizona)

DEs:
Bradyn Swinson (3 star transfer from Oregon)
Ovie Oghoufo (3 star transfer from Texas )
Savion Jones (4 star enrolled at LSU)

Tough to believe at first. This is not an LSU talent defense. Not saying they can’t improve, but this is not a recipe for success now and in the future. Our depth does not look any better.

Georgia, Alabama, Ohio States will be filled with 4 and 5 star RECRUITS mostly. Their depth will be from high school recruits as well.

Bottom line is LSU is gonna need to recruit way better. Using transfers from lower end schools has not worked out and is not the same talent.

I posted this very late last night, but not everyone got to see it. This is worth way more discussion and a definite problem

Yeah the issue is I don’t think anybody is convinced Kelly is a good recruiter. I think there is a good case that he’s the worst of our last 4 coaches recruiting wise.

Play the younger recruits and develop them.

Jackson, Womack, Welch, Harris, Howard, Wiggins, Toviano are all highly ranked players. Cannot be worse than last night especially in the secondary.

Was it just me or did Speights not impress at all?

You get hung up on stars too much. They much more talented than the stars show. Chestnut was an all-conference ACC CB and he didn't play bad last night even on the big pass on him he was in perfect coverage it was just an even better throw.

Do you think Mingo is a 3 star? He's an All-American and played good last night.

I'm not sure what people expected after how the roster was left post O. We'd be a lot worse if we didn't go after those transfers. Kelly has said this isn't the way he will build his program here, but has had to out of necessity early on.

Those changes plus moving Perkins back to a pass rushing role, and this defense will be fine.

Those are very fair points but you absolutely need some of those high ranked guys because they end up being good more often than not

100%

I’d rather lose with young guys who are going to learn and develop vs 4 year transfers from lesser schools. We keep bringing in mercenaries to win now instead of developing our guys.

FSU used the transfer portal as icing. Most of their starters are battle hardened from their time at FSU.

Took some very questionable angles. He did tackle well though I felt when he was around the ball.

None of the LBs have impressed since House has got here and that's his position group. Your problem: House isn't a good coach and that's why his defenses are getting exposed. This dates back into last season near the end his defenses got destroyed and exposed. We thought it was depth, nope, it's House. He sucks and has been figured out and can't coach LBs. Even Perkins is clueless how to play LB.

I think Chestnut would be better as the nickel CB.

His lack of size was exploited by the FSU WRs on the boundary.

Didn't cover crossing routes well and took poor angles on just about every parameter play I saw him evolved in...

When he transferred I watched his tape and wasn’t impressed at all. Got killed on the RB

Some of y’all should probably take stars a little more into consideration.

Those FSU WRs have the size to exploit most college DBs.

A lot of fans don’t know what good football looks like.

Like when they were calling 5* Jacob Phillips a bust though he was an elite tackling machine.

Really? Explain to me why we should. A lot of those guys listed have produced way past their star rankings. You're pretty ignorant if you think star rankings matter over LSU scouting the players. The recruiting services are absolute dog shite at ranking the players. Do you know how many thousands of players slip through the cracks for them who are SEC talent? They rank on the biggest names known and they're absolutely awful at ranking ANYONE in Louisiana because they have next to no scouting resources here.
