These are stats through the first 4 games of each players True Sophomore seasons with each having one start as a true freshman.

Jennings first 4 games last year 40-78 723 yards 5 td 2 int

Harris first 4 games this year 33-62 382 yards 2 td 1 int

Lets take note that Jennings faced Wisconsin and MSU defenses who were both better than any defense we've played this year. Some of you will say how much better harris played than Jennings against MSU. Getting stopped on that 4th and goal early was the play that took LSU out the game. While it is true Harris played better in that game, lets be logical and realize he faced mostly a prevent defense.

Lets also realize that last year Fournette barely had 1000 yards in 13 games. If he plays 13 games this year, he's on pace for over 2,800 yards rushing.

Some of you may say well the WR's have dropped ballls for Harris, guess what they didnt catch every catchable ball Jennings threw either. 4 of those drops need to be forgotten because Dural has run 4 "jet sweeps" this year that were all counted as completions.

Am I hating on Harris? No, i believe he's the more talented of the two guys. However, I see people on here call Jennings the worst LSU QB ever and say he should transfer or switch positions yet Harris gets praised. Harris has arm talent and shows hints of great touch although its not consistent. His throws in the middle of the field are good, his throws to the outside have been ugly for the most part.

LSU has had one outlier season from a QB since 2008. It was in 2013 when a very overrated (imo) Mettenberger was at the helm. Mett had a top 5 all time LSU and starting NFL RB, the best wr currently on the dolphins, and a guy who is one of the top 5 wide wr's in the world at the present time. If you take out those 3 studs, our leading wr's were travin dural and kadron boone who both had 7 catches for the year.

My point here is everybody hates every qb here because of poor stats except mett which like i said was a real outlier. I honestly cant say its a qb talent issue anymore. Theres no way a top 10 program nationally cant recruit one decent high school QB in the last 7 years. We have a major issue with developing anything resembling a decent college QB. I believe a big part of the problem the last 2 years is Coach Grimes. Our run blocking is top notch, our pass blocking is an absolute disaster.

Now for some good news, Leonard Fournette might be good enough to win every game we play this season.

No, let's not. It's been discussed in every thread already.

At least two of our SEC opponents will prepare entirely for stopping him and may have the talent and depth to pull it off. The lack of a credible passing attack won't help.

Pass protection definitely must improve. Buga is right. His posse in front him are absolute savages in front of him. But they are awkward when trying to protect the QB. It could be coaching and the fact that the OL have simply developed into one dimensional beasts who are going through tough adjustments when trying to pass protect.

Weakness protecting the passer, especially on the edge forces the QB into hurrying his throws and the OC to call for quick sideline passes. Harris' habit of rifling the ball with not enough touch causes Cam/Miles to be reluctant to call for bubble screens and slants (and the fear that BH will channel his inner Jarrett Lee!!).

In addition, with the opposing D and DCs naturally gravitating toward loading the box there is not enough room to work with when going short distance. Then we get the long bombs to Dural which can help loosen the D but become too predictable. Of course the cycle goes full circle to the WRs not catching the darn rock when it is thrown to them.

Yeah it really has gotten ridiculous. I mean we cant even throw for over 100 yards anymore. Even Georgia Tech passes for more yards a game than us and they run the damn triple option.

I just think its play calling more so than bad QBing. It seems almost every pass is a homerun ball. Obviously those arent gonna have a high completion %. Im all for throwing the ball downfield but not every damn pass play. What happened to those drag routes we always saw Landry run in 2013. Safe pass and hitting a wideout on the run in space. Slants? The middle of the field is wiiiide open for the intermediate passing game as we saw yesterday when LF7on a couple of occasions was all alone in the middle. One would think CC would see these things from the booth and call plays accordingly to exploit holes in the defense yet we dont ever seem to take advantage of that at all.

Harris or Jennings makes no diference we don't have one that can keep the other D from loading the box. Must fix quickly or we see eight in the box and you can't win just running the ball.

Good post. Maybe CCC's play book is too sophisticated for most college QB's so it either overwhelms them or he has to dumb it down to fit their abilities. I dunno, just looking for the answer to a real problem that everyone around the country who follows college ball knows about. It's inexplicable, I really don't think it's all on Miles thoug his stubbornness and blind loyalty is certainly part of the problem.

First of all, good post - although I expect your objectivity and reason will not be popular on this board.

I disagree about our pass blocking. I think it's been OK. It's just strange how we can't seem to find the combination of: WR getting open; QB having time to find open WR; QB delivering ball to open WR; and WR catching ball. Strange - because I really can't explain it. It's almost like we're the worst in the world at developing a passing game. Fortunately, if our O-line and RBs play at their optimal level, we don't need one. Yes, I really believe that.

I had to listen to the radio and they seemed to place most of the responsibility on receivers dropping the ball last night. Many times said it. Was that not the case last night?
Eta: I agree with the OP btw. Solid post and I don't have and answer. Baffles me too. Harris seems to have more raw talent and be a somewhat intelligent kid, so it doesn't add up.

Pretty disappointing for a thread that was supposed to be some big revelation. Just watch the games and it's very clear that Harris is better and has more upside.

Stats don't win games and certainly don't mean anything from one year to the next.

Agreed. Harris has the talent and appears to have the character as well.

This is very concerning. Harris needs to be protected better in the passing game. Too many missed assignments

You missed the point. Harris is better. More upside. OP said as much.

But nearly Half the totals through 4 games with better and more experienced Oline, WRs, and RBs. If anything, this should give people perspective on this system and our ability to execute it.

Go watch the games Jennings played and don't look at stats. He can't complete a pass inside 10 yards. Also Jennings had receivers drop passes but this year it is unreal. These past 2 games were bad enough for the receivers that ball should be on the hot seat and Les should be threatening to whip arse if they don't put in anymore effort. Dural looks like he just doesn't care anymore, don't know what his problem is but he giving poor effort and he obviously isn't putting in extra work and you can tell that by his suspect hands.

I really don't understand how people can't see this.

Miles turns every quarterback into the same scared little kid year after year.
