No way in the world he shouldn't have been National Coach of the Year (FWAA). I'm 99% sure they gave it to Gundy as a consolation prize for feeling like some of these same people probably screwed his team out of the BCSNCG.

Miles leads the ONLY undefeated FBS team, which oh by the way, happened to play one of if not arguably THE toughest schedule in nation.

Gundy's team scored lots of points on also-ran defenses and needed crazy last second heroics to win 3 or 4 of them. And, oh yeah...they got beat by Iowa State.

Before the year started, Miles wouldn't make the top 20 coaches list let alone #1. The very fact that he is in the conversation for these awards is good enough honestly.

He doesn't care. Neither should you.

I'm very happy for Gundy. He deserves it. LSU has a great amount of tradition. Oklahoma State doesn't and it is their first conference championship in decades.

Gundy getting OSU to 3 something Les never did and is bigger than Les getting LSU to 1 again.

Gundy was not undeserving.

We certainly recognize coach Mile's contribution through the first 8 games of the season. We had a want to give hime the award and we planned to give him the award. However, the opportunity did not present itself. We had other coaches with that provided us with accomplishments that coach miles couldn't despite being able to do it in the first half of the season. I can tell you this, and honestly, coach Miles will play a significant role in the next COY award. Unfortunately, the success of the last 5 games of the season was due to Jeffine intervention and not Coach Miles abilities.

Meh, what's harder to do, go undefeated with LSU, or go 11-1 with Oklahoma State?

I say going 11-1 at OSU is more impressive.

After all, Miles built that program that Gundy is winning with.

I somewhat agree with this. I think LSU's schedule was of course harder and going undefeated through that is MOST impressive.
But looking at coaching and not just wins and losses, I think Gundy finally beating (especially destroying OU) the teams that have pounced OK State for years is a pretty impressive feat.

this speaks to a deeper issue.

the media is brainwashed into thinking miles is a bad coach or a "lucky" coach.

this is the whole reason bama got into the title game. it doesn't make sense to them that miles beat saban. they need a do-over to try to right this illogical outcome.

the same can be said for this award (though it's meaningless other than recognition).

if any other coach in the country goes thru the schedule that LSU did unscathed, he's a genius.

but Les is Les (to them) and he will never be among the best coaches no matter how many skins he hangs on the wall.

this is very sad but very true.

T. Boone helped a bit.

I say going 11-1 at OSU is more impressive.

Given their respective schedules and OSU's loss to Iowa State I would argue with that assessment

I'd go with LSU with the schedule they had.
