re: Les Miles wants to temper the Fournette hype he helped create

I feel bad for LF.
Between the stupid mother frickers here the local and national media and his own coach.... Pretty big shoes to fill.

But all is good since the HYPE sold out the stadium in Houston!
Is that why the cost of the game ticket for the SHSU game has been discounted! Tickets on game day outside stadium will be reduced to $2!
No hype - No full stadium.
Fool me once but not twice!

Based on what I saw Saturday night, I predict Fournette will be LSU's leading rusher this year. He looked like the toughest runner we have, and he's supposedly the fastest. Most people get fooled by the offensive line. Hilliard played well, but he had gaping holes to run through in the second half. To me, Fournette looked better.

Actually the big play to Dural that set up a fg was a PA to LF.

if I recall correctly, LF got the ball every time (or at least most every time) he was in the game.
He did not get the ball every time he was in the game. If people would watch the games, they could really make more accurate assessments.

I don't ever recall Les Miles saying all of those superlatives and comparisons would come to fruition in his first game as a true freshman.
Well that is because you have the capacity to listen and think. I used to take it for granted that everyone could do the same

A nice play-action with LF7 on the field, and it's an automatic 6...

even though Miles himself played a big part in building the hype.
Ridiculous article that I regret even giving a click.
Fournette was a superstar phenom for YEARS before Miles could even SAY HIS NAME IN PUBLIC.
Fournette would have had the same hype from any fanbase, coaching staff, and media market he decided to play for.
The simple fact that a reporter specifically asked Miles about a true freshman that had never played a down at SEC Media Day proves that.
Miles didn't "create" anything. And his reference to Michael Jordan was citing his legendary WORK ETHIC AND DRIVE, not his athletic abilities. He mentioned that when describing LF's character, accountability, and discipline that he has observed since he arrived on campus, which struck him as unique for a freshman, especially one with so much reason to be arrogant and entitled.
He was not adding anything to the hype except for morons who misconstrued the statement or just read a caption about it from some hack writer that misconstrued it for them.

I must say, reading between the lines, I think Les knows Kenny Hilliard and Magee will be getting too many carries for Fournette to blow up this year (at least early in the season), so he doesn't want the fans or LF getting down on himself.
I predict each running back will have more than one game where he is the leading rusher and gets the most carries. Can't really argue against KH right now, and he's a back that can wear down defenses with his size and power if he gets a lot of carries. Magee seems to fit the three wide sets Cam likes better than either. LF should still be the best back on the team by the end of the year as a true freshman which hasn't happened since Kevin Faulk.

My only issue with LEs is that he wouldn't leave him in for multiple plays....I mean the guy ryuns out for one play every once in a while, it seems logical for the D to focus on him
Either they did it on purpose, or that was just stupid arse use of personal. Either way, both are bad.
But watch him on the KRs. Each time, he got a little better. Each time, he got a little bit farther and more elusive. Each time, he laid the boom on one or two guys. You could really see his speed on the last one.
I can't wait to see this guy on Saturday

Exactly. Just finished watching the replay. When Fournette hits the hole, he punishes the Wisconsin players. On the last KR, you can really see his speed and how he bowled over a few guys. it was a couple times were guys bumped off him like little kids trying to tackle. Yeah, he may have run a bit tentative, and yeah, if he bounced that one outside, he might have scored. Those are first game mistakes that he will correct.
Like I said I just watched the replay The holes Hilliard got on the 53 yard drive were gigantic. The commenter made the point that Hilliard would have scored if he was playing two hand touch. The holes were so big that he and Fournette could lay down in a straight line, and still not be as wide as the hole. Also on the 3rd down option play the next drive, Jennings runs the option to the wide side, and Hilliard gains 17 yards with wide open grass. two plays later 3rd and 3, they do a speed option to the damn short side of the field, completely erasing Fournette's speed advantage.
I mean it was like they wanted him to fail a few times. Either that was the case, or they did an extremely stupid play call when they could have did it to the wide side, or run right up the gut.
