In the list, Les is the third ranked CFB coach behind Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. But he is ahead of some really good coaches:

1. Greg Popovich
2. Nick Saban
3. Bill Belichick
4. Mike Krzyzewski
5. Pete Carroll
6. Urban Meyer
7. Tom Coughlin
8. Rick Pitino
9. Bruce Bochy
10. Billy Donovan
11. Tom Izzo
12. Terry Francona
13. Mike Babcock
14. John Calipari
15. Darryl Sutter
16. Doc Rivers
17. Joel Quenneville
18. Les Miles
19. Roy Williams
20. Sean Payton
21. Steve Spurrier
22. Eric Spoelstra
23. Jim Harbaugh
24. Jim Boeheim
25. Bob Stoops

quote:

Championships: Miles guided LSU to a BCS national championship in 2007.

Why he's here: "People focus way too much on the fact Les Miles chews on grass. Chew on this. Miles built a powerhouse at LSU -- four straight seasons with at least 10 wins back that up. Miles' teams are physical on both sides, and his influence has made Tiger Stadium 'a place where opponents' dreams go to die.' If anything, Miles is underrated." — Bill Bender

Stat that matters: Miles has a .798 winning percentage at LSU. That's higher than the .750 mark Nick Saban set with the Tigers from 2000-04.

Yea, that was actually a bit surprising. And he was ahead of Jim Harbaugh.

That's a very respectable ranking even if its mostly subjective like every other list of this kind.

Good to see Les getting the credit he deserves. CLM is top notch.

My god. Image over substance. Let's see how these coaches fare next year without loaded rosters. They are both average at best.

Spoelstra is extremely overrated. LeBron was basically coaching the Heat himself.

How is LM ranked behind Urban Meyer?

Meyer rode Tim Tebow to a pair of natty's sandwiched around Les Miles 2007 title, and then just quit, basically because his savior ran out of elgibility. After leaving UF, it was shown just how corrupt that program actually was and why he feigned being ill as an excuse to get the hell out of there. 40+ of his players were either arrested or kicked off the team during his tenure.

I lived in Florida at that time, and it was about as disgraceful an exit a coach could possibly make.

Urban Meyer is a piece of shite and no way, no how deserves to be ranked ahead of Les Miles.

And that Sean Payton ranking is bogus as well.

Sean Payton's ranking is laughable. Should be top 10 and definitely ahead of Miles. That's not a knock on Miles...SP is just that good.

What Les does in recruiting, playing in the toughest division of college football, and considering the attrition we've had of late, is praiseworthy, for sure. I'd like to stem the attrition.

Agreed. Though I know the odds are slim to none, I'd love to see him take the LSU job should Les leave for some reason.

Coaching college and pro are two different animals. Ask Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier. Not so sure I'd have even Sean Payton ahead of Les but both should surely be top 10 imo.
