No trolling - I love Les Miles.

But the dude can come off as a bit nutty and that doesn't take away from his character and willingness to have his players' backs.

It's like saying "Nick Saban is an amazing coach but he comes off as an a-hole".

Miles is goofy and Saban is assholish. Big whoop. Doesn't take away from the good they do on and off the field.

Don't be so quick to look for a flame when there isn't one there.

I hope you chastise other LSU fans as well, because they say much worse about your coach as you well know.

But you keep on looking for flames just because of the school I graduated from.

Sounds like you're a style over substance type of guy.
So tell me how you would handle it.
Read it monotone from a carefully prepared script so as to say the right words while ESPN is looking?

Yea, I bet the kids would believe in you. Coach genuinely sounds like he has my back.

I shall chalk this up to naivete and not flaming or idiocy.

There is a marked difference when a member of the family is rebuked by another member and when it is done by an outsider. One does it out of frustration and without malice, the other does it out of sheer vileness.

I can only take your word for it , that unlike the other Gumps, you are just being matter of fact and honest about it.

BTW - It is equally stupid when an LSU fan does it but at least at the end of the day, the redeeming factor, if at all, that makes it tolerable is that he too desires the success of only LSU and the smashing of the rest of SEC (Bama included).

How bout some translation. What Les meant was this:

"It's not my fault nor s it Russell's fault that you guys overrated Russell coming out of high school. The kid i recruited is the kid i got and he has contributed exactly what I expected he would contribute, so don't you guys get all critical of him because you misread what he would be. He did everythign i asked him to do and that's all I can ask."

Have you lost your mind? That was the most passionate defense of a winning effort by a head coach I have ever witnessed. Could you in your wildest imagination see Nick Saban displaying that kind of intense appreciation for his players?

Now we know why Miles' players love him. He stands with them, win or lose.

Walk into a press conference after an emotional game like that at home and see how any of us would handle it. I like Les because he's real and I think he really cares about his men. Saban is more of a corporate guy and has the ability to keep it under control when the mic is on. I imagine he cares about his men as well. Neither is wrong, just different.

Neutral opinion here, not a fan's...I think LSU gets plenty of national respect. I see more LSU games on TV in the Northeast now than I did when I lived in Louisiana. My NE buddies joke that CBS is the LSU Channel. It keeps the wife happy and I get to see great football.

Bottom line, from what I can tell, I'd like for my son to play for Coach Miles. From what I can tell from a press conference anyway.

Doesn't really matter what any of us think. The truth is ESPN interpreted it as nothing but postive and every parent and recruit will now see it that way. Just to be clear, I'm not the biggest Les fan, but to say that his rant reflected poorly on anybody in any way is an absolute misread on your part.

NoGeaux, you think it was his opening statement? If so, it surely is in response to Rabalais' piece in the Advocate this week, which I thought was truly classless. The kid's body isn't even cold and he's doing a post-mortem on his career as a bust.

I saw the video last night but couldn't get anywhere near TD/ScoreBoard, but this was my question all along: had someone asked a question or mentioned the article, or did CLM lead off with this? Obviously if he did, it had stuck in his craw and he needed to get it out.

Good for him! In those unbridled moments when scripts and coach-speak go out the window, you know why he's been good for the program, even when he's making bone-headed calls that drive us nuts.
