How reasonable is it to have JJ as our starting QB?

Didn't JJ score a 16 yard TD onthe option against State?

Probably the worst thing that could happen....that means they will continue to run it with marginal results. I've never seen him pitch it to the running back with good results. Teams that have been good at the option have been so because that is all they do. You're not going to be good at the option doing it 4-5 times a game. There's hardly any teams that run the option anymore...got to be a good reason for that.

We are not close to getting it right. We have subpar talent at QB and OL. That means we need to change the way we play offense to mask those qualties.

Maybe that is why our emphasis has slowly moved to the run??

I'm not sure JJ should be the starter, but trying to practice the plays with him in the hopes that he can improve doesn't sound like insanity. In fact, it sounds like what every coach in every sport I've ever played has done to the whole team.

Other than running it to the short side of the field the main problem we have when we run the option is that JJ doesn not know how to execute it.

He takes the snap and runs at the same speed the whole time and every play.

If the DE comes at you quick you should slow down and pitch it at the last second. If the DE squats and waits, or comes slowly towards you then you are suppose to run right at him and attack him and make him make a decision.

I think they like keeping that play in there to keep the defense more spread out to set up other plays. The more running plays a defense has to consider defending, the better your opportunities with play action.

I just don't really see how they're mixing in multiple plays from the same formations. They seem to telegraph their run plays a bit too much.

But then I don't get paid millions for it, so I just assume that there are nuances I'm not picking up.

I remember watching them do it with J Russell that eventually resulted in a TD throw against UF.

I think they set that play up over 3-4 games.

Well let me try.....last season, every week he said we have a want to get better on offense and we will work harder to get better.....the next week they ran the same plays with the same players.....end result was the same......fast forward to this season......we have a want to get better on offense....so we will work harder.....same players.....same plays.....same results.....insanity.
