When the talk begins, the drum beat is quiet, then it becomes so loud you can't sleep.

I hate being a fan when the drums get load. LSU deserves better.

It's all speculative and hearsay, but I heard some similar goings-on way back in december. If it was going to happen we'd have already heard. I think a lot of the talk started from the Ole Miss game and was hinging on the Arkansas game, but we ended up winning a thriller in OT so the talk subsided.

He definitely has one more season at least depending on what happens. Last season wasn't all that bad when you think about it...

Loss 1 - A 10 point loss to a Florida team with a top 5 D and arguably the best college player ever as their QB
Loss 2 - Future SEC and national Champion Bama...and we played them extremely well in their stadium with some questionable calls
Loss 3 - Ole Miss...this is about the only one you can blame Miles completely. The end of the game management was horrible..don't want to talk about this one
Loss 4 - To a good Penn State team that was fired up to play for Joe Pa, in SHITTY conditions with players slipping (our advantage is always our speed) dropped balls, etc.

To add a little more spice to this gumbo, There is a rumor on Espn Insider that Jon Gruden may be a target to succeed Les.

after the ole miss debacle last yr, i immediately called the athletic offices and left voice mails for alleva, miles and verge ausberry. i was floored on the following monday when verge called me on my cellphone. i had a great and informative conversation with him for 20 minutes. i expressed my concern and displeasure for the coaching situation. he told me that nothing could b done at the time because he would have to come up with 25 mill. he assured me changes would be made and that 2010 was a "very important year for coach miles". he assured me that the program "would not slip into mediocrity on his watch." he said he understands winning, having played for arnsparger. he came across as a class guy who has the best interest of lsu in his focus. maybe he was blowing smoke, but i thought it one hell of a gesture to return my call and address my concerns. that being said, i think miles' arse is on a ticking clock.

I wasn't a big fan of Saban when he was here and still believe he will screw over Bama ultimately.

Gruden's not going to coach in college. My bet is he winds up at the Titans if Fisher is fired after this season.

I think Miles is still here in part because LSU does NOT have the money to pay his enormous buyout.

Or maybe because he's had a period of continued success for the last 5 years, with an expected dip in production in 2008 and a subsequent rise in production in 2009.

I'm laughing because you idiots need to know you don't just buy out a contract...you buy out a set of contracts...Position, TV, Radio, etc.

Miles gets 5-6 Million just for radio and TV rights over three years.

Your buyout total is around 10-15M right now but decreases every year of course.

Goodluck finding your mystery bank account.

No question the money is available for a buyout but doubt if it's in an account somewhere in one chunk. It's pretty common knowledge inside TAF, that the big-money alumns have told Joe that Les must win the West this year or they want him out. Joe's no fool. He'll listen to these guys if he wants that shopping mall built on the end of TS. The beauty of this is we don't have to wait long. UNC will be a great yardstick for measuring how far we've come and how far we still need to go to beat Bama and retake the West.

Don't confuse LSU and TAF. TAF can raise the buyout if/when the time comes. Money is not an issue for TAF.

I'm afraid not, radio, tv, and other media such as dinners, fundraiser's, etc are "apart" of his "position" contract....They are all put together. not seperate..

My uncle and I were talking this past weekend and I asked if he had any good news on Les Miles and his job. He said that he talked to a friend of his who has family members that high up in the TAF and he said there is a bank account somewhere in Baton Rouge with the money to buyout his contract. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything like that lately.
