This is really a pleasant surprise for me. With all the perceived negativity about a "downslide" and the near firing of Miles, how does he maintain his recruiting prowess? Not only maintain - it seems we're in the greatest 3-4 year recruitment cycle in the school's history. Our success in recruiting wide receivers is even more perplexing. I'm happy for it, and I absolutely LOVE our coach - I'm just surprised that the decline isn't real.

Watch his opening soeach from media days. You'll get it.

average coaches don't do what Les has done , average coaches don't become the face of LSU !

At this point in their careers, this is a very good comparison. No slight to either, both will be hall of fame coaches. Hopefully Miles can have an upswing before he retires and pull ahead.

I also would compare Miles to John Cooper at this stage. Both hall of fame coaches, but criticized for underachieving with elite talent, and not beating the rivals enough. Similar records.

Miles gets a huge boost because of the NC but losing 2 games that year was an underachieving regular season. But it balances out with the all time great season in 2011 that got ruined in the national championship. So maybe Mack Brown is the closest comparison to Miles (at this point). im fully expecting Miles to leave him in the dust over the next 4-5 years.Things are trending up for LSU, but were trending down for Mack at this stage.

In the last two drafts we have had one guy drafted higher than the 3rd round. In the last three drafts we have one down lineman drafted and that was 88. We haven't had a OL guy taken higher than the 2nd round since 2007. We haven't had a QB taken before the 5th round since Russell. Where is this "elite talent" in both lines and QB that we are underachieving with?

Teams in the SEC will go as far as their lines and QB take them.

What's your point?...did i specify elite talent on the OL?

LSU has been NFL U under Miles, and is routinely criticized for not reflecting it in the W/L's. Just like Cooper was.

This is because so many underclassmen jumped to the NFL immediately before those seasons. Have you seen any projections for next year's draft?

U know La'el Collins would have probably went in the first round if it wasn't for that murder investigation though ;)

" Routinely criticized for not reflecting it in W/L"

Really? LSU is #2 for W/L record among power 5 programs since 05 while playing in the strongest division of the strongest conference in college football.

I don't have any problem with anyone comparing Mles to Brown as long as we recognize that Miles competed in a stronger conference than Brown.

Since the draft of 2012, other then the offense talent that came out 2013, i'm not really sure if I could classify our talent as being elite.
