It is unfortunate because they were very successful coaches otherwise.

But they'll both be remembered for the same thing - struggling with Bama every year.

And when LSU fired him they saw decades of mediocrity. Be careful what you wish for.

Was about to post the same thing. The LSU coach is a nice guy, friend to everyone. The Alabama coach is a give no shite about you unless you can help the team win.

Only concern with the situation is if LSU decides to go the route like it did in removing Coach Mac because he could not defeat Alabama and the aftermath after his departure.

There's some truth to that.....and yes, we really have had the misfortune of being evaluated based on our performance against what will undoubtedly be known as 2 of the greatest college football dynasties of all time. that's why all this sucks as toothily as it does.

Before even talking about the fact that LSU is a way different program now, how no one brings this up is beyond me.

I was an adult and paying attention all during Mac's career. Les is a much better coach and has a much higher winning percentage.

because he never coached a single game at LSU so its kind of hard to say what would've happened

Hey, I don't think Coach Miles is going to be termed, hell, I would probably stage a Missouri type protest if he was

This is a silly comparison. Charlie Mac had longevity, which is why he lies in LSU folklore. He had 4 seasons in his 18 year tenure where he lost 2 games or less...and since one of those years was his first year as HC, it wasn't his team (using rant logic).

Everyone keeps talking about the Hallman and DiNardo years...hell the last 7 years of CM's tenure were horrible as well with the best season being a 3-loss season. Charlie Mac was fortunate enough to coach LSU during an era where Tiger Stadium earned its reputation of having the most raucous fans, which helped in some memorable upsets or in pushing top ranked teams to the limit (those moral victories). He NEVER would have survived in today's football world at LSU with his results.
