how in the world is that racism??? Very few families (black, white, green, or blue) can afford a $160k premium.
But I believe the school can help with the premium payment. Otherwise, very few players would be able to afford this type of insurance.
I didn't read the link, but he may also have a "decrease in value" policy which kicks in if an injury diminishes his value - like a knee injury that drops him to the 4th rounds. Insurance would make up the difference.

That is smart. Hopefully it will put an end to the should LF7 sit out this season and save himself for the NFL threads, and discussions, but it probably won't.

Pretty cool how this is possible. I Would like to see more services come available like this to help ease the minds of those who are torn between school and declaring early out of fear or injury.
LF7 is not the first player to do it, and any player with the potential of being a 1st rounder is smart to take out the policy.

This is great. Hope it encourages players to stay another year.

I don't think it will have that effect. I think the insurance merely protects them when they HAVE to stay in school until they become draft eligible.
Maybe occasionally a player will opt to stay in school knowing the insurance is there, but it's still a risk. You don't want to get injured. Yes, the insurance payout is nice, but they would lose a ton of money in the long run.
Moral of the story - go pro as soon as possible, assuming the extra year in college won't increase their draft position enough to justify the lost year in the NFL. That lost year is a year of NFL earnings they'll never get back - plus they're a year closer to their second contract.

Seems like 98% of the population's brains are programmed to first look for racism or some other form of prejudice as a response to see if they can turn the situation in their favor. Saul Alinsky was a brilliant man, but he's also one of the most dangerous people who ever lived.

The real question is where parents got the $160,000 for the insurance policies from.

By the way, can we stop with the constant race obsession?
It's 2016, and the vast, vast majority of us have moved on. Our president is bi-racial. One of the most beloved NY Yankees of all time is bi-racial. The NBA MVP is bi-racial. The best golfer of our generation is bi-racial. Ben Simmons (love him or hate him) is bi-racial. Heck, most of my daughters friends are bi-racial.
It's a far different world than it was 100 or even 50 years ago. If you look at the world through a racial prism, everything you see will be racially-tinged.
But if you look at the world with clear eyes, you'll see that we've moved on. You'll NEVER rid the world of a few racists (on all sides) but that shouldn't cloud the fact that the US has moved past the racial problems of the past. Come join us.

That's a good idea. Both policies are good for his 1st professional contract as a top 5 pick or roughly 20M.

How do most people buy things they cannot afford?
Loans.

The NBA MVP isn't Bi-racial. Good post.

Isn't fournette technically insured for 20 million?

Steph Curry?? You're right, I should've said multi-racial. Tiger too.
"Sonya [Curry] is Caucasian, African-American Creole and Haitian ethnic background from both her parent’s side."
And I'm not into nit-picking. The point is that more and more people today are bi/multi-racial. So let's stop keeping score as to percentages and using hyphenated-American terms, and just treat them as human beings.

yes
if he gets hurt, the millions pay off the loan
if he doesn't get hurt, the NFL millions pay off the loan
as i said, very low risk for the lender

the biggest kicker is if he ends up getting the insurance monies, tax free baby.

star athletes in college getting large insurance policies is nothing new. it has been going on for 40 yrs or longer. my first recollection of a star college back getting hurt bad enough to collect was Marcus Dupre of Oklahoma sometime back in the 70's. if my memory is correct he received the sum of one million dollars. that's roughly equivalent of ten million is todays money.
I don't exactly know how it's paid for but it's legit and on the up and up. the ncaa knows it's good for college football for the stars to be playing as long as possible. I imagine the premiums are paid for by an entity that will get reimbursed after the player turns pro and will make a nice profit off it themselves. that's America, baby!
