Legitimate Questions for the APP State fans..

If ASU makes the leap in 2011 to the BCS division of the NCAA...
What conference will ASU petition to join?
What type of time frame will ASU expect before they go bowling?
Who would be your rivals?
Would you still recruit the same athletes?

Not an ASU fan but I think it would go like
1) They join the Big East.
2) I think they could make it to their first bowl within 3 years.
3) North Carolina and Louisville. With a game against one of their FCS rival teams every year.
4) They could. The Spread is an easy way to become good fast.

Most ASU fans would not want to go to the Sun Belt. I would prefer ACC because it would keep the games close to home for us. Any chance you guys are gonna have any room for us in the SEC in the next few years? :)

I was in Boone a few weeks ago and talked with one of their coaches on campus. I asked him about moving up to D-1A. He said they have no plans of such. What would be the incentive if they can still play the money games against D-IA opponents (Ex: LSU, Michigan) yet still compete/win National Championships on their level? There simply is no incentive for them.

I think they could be the next Boise St. It's gotta be easier to recruit to N.C. than it is in Boise...

Anyone who thinks ASU could jump into the Big East out of D1-AA is a freakin moron. The Big East would never invite them in the hypothetical situation being discussed in this thread.

That's what I've been hearing too. We still have some work to do, I think the stadium is going to just barely be large enough for I-A.

I wouldn't want to make the jump if it mean going to the sun belt/CUSA. Id like Big East or preferably ACC.
It wouldn't be long before we would go bowling...
Going to a bowl is becoming less and less amazing with these 6-5 teams in bowls.
Wake Forest would be a good rival, weve won like our last 6 meetings i believe and they won't play us anymore. Probably Marshal since they used to be in our conference.
Just being an ACC or Big East school wed naturally get better recruits but I supposed that would take a number of years to take shape. If we went CUSA or Sun Belt I wouldn't expect a great leap in quality of recruits.

Unfortunately I don't think the University is going to be big enough (read $$) to get into the ACC any time soon. I prefer the ACC just because of playing so many games in-state.

I guess in that sense, the bowl revenue could be much greater for them. They are currently expanding their stadium and the seats are already sold.

Doubt it would be the Big East. Talking heads (local radio) were discussing the future of UCF.
The issue with the Big East is that they have 16 schools in the conference, but only 8 play football. UCF would be a good fit for football. They have the new stadium and they have the enrollment, but I don't think the Big East can add another school for football without dropping a DePaul or a none football member.

Northeast (now ULM) made that jump too and went form 1-AA National Champions to shite! They are not the only example. App State should stay where they are.

I think it would be great if we were in the ACC. We would get our arse kicked in basketball, but that's okay.
CUSA could be interesting, but I think ECU might get mad if we went there too. I heard we were wanting to schedule them at some point in time. Possibly at game at BofA stadium in Charlotte, but I don't think they have said yes.

I agree with you for now. Coach Moore has done a lot with the team and they have performed beyond our wildest expectations the last few years. If we made the jump now we'd just get lost in the crowd. Not sure there is an upside for us at this point even though many of our fans get excited about the prospect of being I-A.

That's the reason that the NCAA put the ban out it. Apparently there were quite a few 1-AA teams that made the jump...and missed..a lot...
