Why do we care about making the tournament when we have no chance in hell to win or even get to the final 4?

If we end up ranked #12 in football we are livid. Not just LSU, but lots of places.

Yet making the tournament in basketball is seen as some great feat.

I don't get it. I'm not being negative about this. I honestly wonder about the difference in mentality and outlook.

Well this could be said for most schools. Certain programs are better historically, have more donations, ticket sales, etc. LSU is a football school and has an elite baseball program as well.

I say we've done pretty well in basketball historically given those two things. Obviously I'd want us to be Duke or UK or Kansas in basketball and keep our football/baseball, but look at their other sports.

Also, the PMAC is outdated and LSU has a hard time recruiting at an elite level nationally. Our Final 4 run recently was a team comprised of almost all local kids.

We have to beat Bama 1st
They are the hottest team in the SEC right now behind Kentucky.

In some level of fairness, assuming that this team makes the tournament, it will have only been the 3rd time in the last 10 years that this has happened. The post-2006 Final Four years have mostly consisted of futility, so there's that.

CJJ would have to outcoach someone legitimate to get to the Final Four. Can't hope that the talent overcome your deficiencies forever. That could be nearly far fetched.

Exactly what I said.

Agree. I have no issues with our program, but it doesn't answer my question.

Are you always this analytical and well spoken?

Makes sense. Kind of like Vandy making a bowl, even a crappy bowl. Or Northwestern going to the Rose Bowl.

Answer this: can you make the final 4 without making the tourney?

Was 2000 and 2001 not exciting for LSU football?

You sound like an absolute moron. Why should fans want their team to do well? Really?

So if you know who won't make the final 4 today, tell us who will. You must have the crystal ball.

I think this is where you are going wrong.

But to answer your question, many people are LSU fans and not just LSU football or LSU basketball fans. So we root like hell for every sport to have success no matter the odds.

No, you're just being really stupid (perhaps intentionally obtuse) about it.

So the answer is that the first step is "make the tournament."

Makes sense taken in that light.

But, since we have no hope in hell of making the final 4, it is the equivalent of going to a good bowl (good being defined by the individual program).

That's PART of it

False

What do you think?

Was the peach bowl fun in 2000? Was the 2001 season fun?

Your logic is just laughable.

How is there no hope? We have no hope with a guy like Simmons on our team?

Do you even realize LSU went to the final four before as an 11 seed?

Right. That's what I said.

Could be. Perhaps I should have said, I don't see it as a possibility.

I hear you. Thanks for an actual discussion.

Ok. Makes sense.

Appreciate it. Thanks.

I think exactly that. LSU making the tournament is like Northwestern going to the Rose Bowl or Vandy going to any bowl.

I don't understand what the question is.

There was an article that came out on USA Today this morning : Three bubble teams that could win it all... If you could guess, LSU was one of the three.

Yes they are. This won't be an easy game. I'll be super pumped if we win.
