I'm trying to stay in the moment with him and it sucks that we lost, but what I saw tonight was something that Nola and Gausman as freshmen couldn't do. Now, I'm not predicting him to be as good as those two just yet, but the dude is only going to get better as he continues to learn from Dunn.

Will he be the Friday starter sooner rather than later?

I'm not sure if Mainieri will switch it up in the middle of conference play, but I think he's a lock to swap with Poche for next season, barring injury.

If Poche keeps dealing (re: winning), then maybe next year. It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be honestly. I absolutely think he's our best pitcher. But whether or not he's Friday isn't so important as us just continuing to win games with the way things are.

It's pretty fricking awesome that we return our entire rotation next season, plus a healthy Latz (hopefully). Just sucks that we'll lose a lot of offense & defense with Bregman, Stevenson, Hale & Scivicque gone.

Yeah I get that. But like nola vs. that OK pitcher a couple years back, would you match power with power? Kinda feel like Lange would give you the best chance to win that critical 1st game in post season.

We lose a ton next year potentially.

Hale
Sciambra
Foster
Scivicque

Bregman
Stevenson
Laird

That leaves you with Chinea Zardon Fraley and KRob. You'll have Bryd, Pap, Deichmann and the Jordan twins. But all with very little experience. We'll be short on OF and C in terms of any depth at all.

Chinea

I think Chinea goes, too. Mainieri has already mentioned that. Kid wants to catch and his stock will be inflated because he is a catcher with raw power.

Like I said before, I think there's a chance that Laird stays. Speed is nice and all, but he's a slap hitter with a weak arm.

I saw that too about Chinea. But no one is going to draft him high enough right? He'll be like an Ibarra or Dean in that he comes back in hope of raising his stock. With all that goes, he'll have more opportunities to play the field either sharing time with Pap or whoever takes over at 1B. (I'm assuming Zardon back at 3B)

Catcher's always get drafted higher. And scouts will like his raw power, plus he may just go if he is drafted in the first 30 rounds because he wants to catch.

The staff will be crazy good next year and offensively we'll take a pretty good step back. But yes, Lange will be the Friday starter next year barring injury.

I still think it is too early to compare him to other recent aces in their freshmen year though.

It's too early for sure. But people see the potential and want to start the conversation. He's a hell of a pitcher.

He's our 3rd string catcher who can't slug above 350 or play any other position. Catcher isn't looked that way anymore anyway. Lots of players who are considered athletes are getting converted to play the spot.

Agree to disagree, I just think someone will take a chance on him in round 23-25 and he'll probably jump on that because he can't really improve his stock as a 1B.

On another note, what are the chances Bouman ever pitches in a weekend game that isn't blow out? I think tonight was his last chance.

No doubt.

Have you gone back to look at what kind of shape he has gotten himself into from this time last year until now? I'm glad the transformation didn't happen a year earlier or we would have missed out on these three years.

I hope he never pitches again. That's hyperbole and I don't really mean it, but I don't want him pitches in cleanup on a midweek game against southern and somehow strike out the side which could possibly give PM a tiny inckling to use him again on a weekend.

You're much more informed than me when it comes to the recruiting side so I'll rely on you for that one. We definitely lucked out. He should be in AA this year.

Damn near half of our recruits coming in are JUCO guys. Should be very interesting. The freshmen coming in look fricking unreal, though.

MOT just linked the commitments in the KRob thread. I know we had a ton of transfers but that was about it. I thought it was just 2 from Delgado but it's 3.

This is the 2nd year in a row we're trying to go big. Panned out great for year one. Hoping for the same.
