I can't read his mind and while I think a lot of posters to the forum provide some good insight to the WHY of John Chavis' departure, no one knows for sure.

However, I strongly believe it shows a lack of respect for LSU and the Tiger program for him to jump to a direct, division rival and recruiting competitor. Whatever your beef or need, take it somewhere else and at least show respect for the institution. If you are hacked at Alleva, so be it. But rise above and behave with class and integrity. LSU gave you 6 years of employment and Les is a class guy. Show some respect and gratitude for what you have been given. The whole thing STINKS of SELFISHNESS IMO.

Yes. Chavis has behaved in a very unprofessional manner.

He was already calling the Texas aTm AD on Christmas Eve, from what I read on their board.

He either tanked the LSU defense on purpose for the bowl game or just stopped coaching once he learned a week ago that he had a new job at aTm.

Meh, I cant blame a guy for getting paid. However, all the bullshite cloak and dagger crap not letting people know until after the bowl is dumb and it hurt the team.

Just take a look at the guy, do you think he knows what class means?

Does this apply to everyone in life? Is it classless for engineers to take jobs with competitors?

CLM and his agent used Arkansas as leverage to get a raise...classless? If you say no tell me why.

He's not going to get many Christmas cards from BR, that's for sure. You can't do that as a Coordinator and preserve relationships. As a position coach yes. But as a coordinator, within the division, it's a personal declaration of war.

I think this benefits LSU for many, many reasons if we make the right hire.

I understand your frustration. It bugs me too. However, I suspect Chavis may want to retire in 3-4 years, and wants to maximize his dollars and have a guaranteed term not tied to Miles being there. I have no info, but I suspect Les may be on the hot seat after next year, and LSU doesn't want to tie itself financially to Chavis if the incoming coach doesn't want to retain him. If Miles is out after 2015 or 2016, Chavis would find himself looking for 1-3 years of employment. Les may have wanted to retain Chief and pay him the 1.7, but he may not have the pull with the LSU pocket book right now. Just a theory.

He should have been upfront period.

This wasn't even a big time bowl game. He could have been upfront and not stiff LSU so bad. He went out like a bitch just because he didn't get the contract offer he wanted.

Again if he wants to go for more money, fine. But don't be a bitch about it and don't expect to be beloved for it. I thought Chavis was all about loyalty lol. LSU has been more than great to him, and he leaves a year early off his contract to go to a rival.

in some jobs there are no-competition clauses in contracts, I'm kinda surprised that in college football there aren't in most coaches contracts saying they can't jump to an inter-conference or inter-division rival...

By all accounts, he and Haley were peas in a pod, right?

I'm guessing there will be a slight strain in their relationship from here on. Lol

I have speculated since the halfway point of last season that he was retiring. And I think that's what this move to A&M is for him.

He gave in to lower expectations with nowhere to go but up with no effort. He can't be serious about playing defense with that offensive system.

He didn't burn a bridge, he scorched earth.

Yes. I am a CPA. And if I stayed in after accepting another position and tanked and screwed my company and co workers over I would call it extremely classless

Totally agree.. he also SEEMS to have kept it quiet ..so no conversations with Muschamp took place.

He was fired from TN
He would have been fired from LSU in another year...thus only the 1 -yr offer. (IMHO)

He will perform well for a couple of yrs at A&M, just long enough for a contract extension and will reverse to his ways.

Personally, if the guy is gonna leave like this, I prefer it in a loss. If he'd have gotten the win and took the job, it wouldn't have looked as bad. Jetting to a division rival, after a bowl loss in a rebuilding year - it makes for some pretty fired up fans and coaches still here.

If we can make a splash at DC, win some big games next year and beat A&M, it will be the LOL of a lifetime.
