Apparently you want to keep playing this game and being a prick. Whoever put UNO over ULL a few posts up is a moron too. ULL is a national research university, just like LSU and Tech. UNO is absolutely not. That's about the only differentiation I'd make. The only reason LSU gets ranked over Tech most of the time is because it's propped up by so much money and the state loves them, not because it's so frickin' immaculate and amazing.

No, LSU is ranked high due to the quality of professors and the ease with which our students are thrust into the work force of the major of their choice. La tech is a good school, no one is arguing that it isnt. LSU is better overall academically and athletically because we do have the funding and we do have the teachers.

IF pointing out the facts is being a prick, than so be it. LSU is a more prominent academic institution compared to La Tech. I'm sorry if you can't accept the facts, that's just the way it is. I'm not bashing Tech, they obviously have some very good programs. From an overall perspective, they simply aren't equal or better than LSU.

I prefer and love Tech, but I'm not going to get into this argument. This is a sports board, not an academic comparison board... We're not here to insult each other's education are we?

The rankings bear out that LSU is a better school overall than Tech as previous posters have noted. Being from North LA and being an LSU graduate there is a lot of envy from certain Tech graduates against all things LSU. That being said there are plenty of Tech alumni who support their school and received an education comparable to that at LSU in some programs. I've never understood the hatred of LSU by some Tech supporters. Tech is a good school for some programs (aviation for one) not offered other places. Some of the anti-LSU Tech fans would be better served supporting their own university instead of targeting LSU.

I know some of you want to throw the dogs a bone but Techs engineering dept is not on par with LSU. In fact they (TECH) have not a program that is better than any other Univ. in our State. Most have a legitimate claim to something, i.e. ULM's pharmacy program.

tech is a tier 2 school which is pretty damn good. the criteria that hold them back from being tier one are not that big of a deal. they don't get as much research money as LSU and they may not have as many students studying internationaly, but they are good nonetheless.

I'd be interested in seeing this publication that has them listed as a tier 2 school.

Isn't LSU like, the bottom-most "Tier 1" school to begin with? The only difference is because of the criteria US News and World Report or whatever uses hurts Tech's ranking. We don't have as big of an endowment, but we make a LOT of money on our patents and inventions and are building things off of lots of royalties. A lot of universities are suffering with the bad economy right now, but actually Tech is thriving and building a TON of new facilities, both academically and athletically. Jindal himself just paid a visit and praised the school, saying we serve as a model of efficiency and achievement, and that we need to get more money because we do so well with less money than a lot of other institutions.

Again, cutting down other schools' educations and comparing is just being a jerk in general. I'm not going to dog out LSU either. Can't we all just when it comes to this?

Fair enough, I can agree that both schools are fine academic institutions.

The only reason LSU is currently a "Tier 1" school is that US News expanded their rankings to fit more into the top tier. Going by the old formula they'd still be Tier 3, just like Tech.

I know LSU was ranked around #130, where did La Tech land?
