No. McCown left the pocket making himself a runner. There is no such thing as a foul for targeting or helmet to helmet on a runner. That rule only applies for QBs inside the pocket & for receivers in the process of making a catch. Once a receiver catches the ball & makes a football move, he is also considered a a runner.
Thanks for the explanation

The initial contact didn't appear to be helmet to helmet.
This. Also you can bang helmets in a tackle, you just can't lead with the crown of your helmet.
quote:
“The first rule change prohibits a runner or tackler from initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet outside the tackle box,” the video’s narrator says. “There are three components to this foul: First, the player must line up his opponent. Second, he must lower his head. And third, he must deliver a forcible blow with the crown of his helmet to any part of his opponent’s body. The crown is the very top of the helmet. This rule was designed not only to protect the player receiving the blow, but also the player delivering it. Violations of this rule will result in 15-yard penalties for unnecessary roughness, and potential discipline. If the contact occurs in the tackle box, or if all three components are not present, there is no foul.”

Kwon hits with his shoulder here straight into McCown's chest with head to the side to avoid leading with his helmet. It's textbook. The only reason McCown's head snaps is because of the force of the hit. The helmets don't even hit until both players are going to the ground.

The rules have changed so much over the years that it's hard to keep up with them all sometimes.

The LB Corp is not mediocre. Shallow? Yes. Mediocre? No.

McCown is an idiot for not just throwing the ball away. Sports tend to have a way of making you pay for your mistakes especially football.
