Killer Class + NCAA "Experience" + depth = NC Lock next year????...ummm

So far, the Latest Blown Opportunity, has been pointed on the players (yes), the coach (yes), lack of depth (yes), and the posters nega and sunshiners, everyone is hunkering down in their camps.
My take is a lot of all the above. When the 3 players ran into each other on offense on the top of the key late in the game as it was unraveling - I knew they would lose. Yes, the players could simply not handle the pressure. Yes, the coach just left time outs on the table which maybe could have been used, if nothing else, to take a little steam out of NCSt. Yes, maybe they were gassed because the bench can't really contribute, and that led to missed shots.
But EVERYONE is tired at that point. And when a talented team looks confused, there are offenses that you can use to settle down, or rest. We did a terrible job of milking the clock in the stretch with a lead. That's on coaching. So it all came to a head in the last 5 minutes in a terrible way. But the game was lost in the 10 to 5 mark. I'm sure legs were fresher there. But discipline was missing.
It's all done now, but next year - especially if one or both of the M+M's are back, you will have "seasoned" vets with talent, they have a whole year to work on free throws, and with a monster incoming class, you will have even more talent, and a deeper bench.
While it's still up for debate who bears the weight of 3-19-15, next year it will be very clear how good the coaching is, because the talent will be over the top, have depth, and hopefully can hit free throws under pressure. If the same type of game occurs (hot start - faltering end), the answers will be clear.
PS: a lot of ppl are getting bent out of shape because of "criticism". Well, coaches are handsomely paid to win, and players play big time ball understanding that if they want the praise when winning, then when they lost there will be a little heat. It's a competition, not a meditation session. Every team is "trying hard", good or bad. But posters should be civil and factual in their criticism. they suck, doesn't count.....

Pump those unrealistic expectations baby!!!!!

I don't think physically we have a problem. Mentally, this team was weak all year. We will have to toughen up mentally to have a shot next year.

Anyone who thinks just adding good to great freshman to this team will change things is sorely mistaken.
and I'm not pointing at coach Jones specifically.

One thing is for certain, the talent will be even better, and the magnifying glass over the coaches will be about 5 feet in diameter.....if the pressure was great this year, it will be even greater next year....

This is key. If they come back I have no problem seeing us as a preseason top 10. If not, I'm concerned that even with all the incoming talent we'll go through growing pains and be frustrating and inconsistent again. Then we'll be saying "wait till next year" again. We would have a Kentucky-esque rotation if everyone returns. Hope they consider that before they bolt

Vegas is waiting on you to place your bet on that happening.

Part true, partly not. The reason we got as far as we did this year was because of talent, so if you have a recruiting class stacked with talent and add it to a roster filled with good talent, how can that not help? I think whether or not M&M return is the big if.

The team, even the youngsters coming in, should be hungry as all hell after what transpired this season. I like our chances.

Love your enthusiasm but hold on a sec champ.....you don't think UK will reload and be right there again?

I agree with the OP. If one or both of M@M come back, but that is doubtful. I would take one of them in a heartbeat and be happy about LSU's chances. Even if both leave, LSU should get in the NCAA tourney. If not....

As it should be! This team is mentally weak with Johnny Jones at the helm. That is a fact that you cannot dare prove otherwise. The talent being brought in next year will be the greatest since Chris Jackson and Shaq. Book it. I hope JJ makes some type of effort to set up his team for success and not choke like this team did a majority of the season

LSU basketball will never be a national championship lock. The best you can hope for realistically next year is comfortably in the tournament and a seed above 9.

martin talked about how they took quick shots...hopefully this will teach them what it takes to win games. that and the way they came out and played in the first half is how you have to approach every game, not just turn up when you're playing a top 25 team.

We need Malik if we want a good shot
