I'm rooting for LSU this week and I"m putting my money where my mouth is. But thinking about Kevin Steele makes me nervous about LSU's D. He came from Saban and he knows him like the back of his hand. I don't think Saban would've promoted him from LB coach to DC if he stayed there.

2007 Bama DC
38 pts allowed vs Arkansas
26 vs Georgia
17 vs Ten
41 vs LSU
17 vs Aub

2009 Clemson DC
30 vs GT
14 vs TCU
37 vs Mia
39 vs GT

2010 Clemson DC
27 vs Aub
30 vs Mia
43 vs NC st
29 vs S.Car

2011 Clemson DC
24 vs Aub
30 vs FSU
3 vs VT
34 vs S.Car
10 vs VT
70 vs WV

2012 Clemson DC
19 vs Aub
49 vs FSU
27 vs S.Car
24 vs LSU

Good thing is that Bama does not have good QB like McCarron, McElroy in the past that can make LSU pay. Also, no stud NFL talented WRs like Julio Jones or Amari Cooper this year.

Lame post...He didn't have the players he has here or the coaching staff he has around him now. This comparison would be like comparing Saban's numbers at Mich. State or Les's at OK State. Makes no sense at all.

I don't care about his other stops, I just don't understand why we look so bad in zone coverage. If he plays man to man we will be fine if he sticks to that Saban Zone style we will have issues

Convenient how you left out his stats against top 25 teams this year, which I was looking at yesterday. Spoiler: we're one of the best teams in the country on defense against top 25 teams this season

who cares

LSU has the 18th overall D in the entire ncaa and 4th in the SEC

no one is running on us and we do enough to win games late when it matters.. his d pretty much shuts opponents out in the first half while we build a lead and teams play desperate catch up.

much rather this than playing catch up and being ran all over early on... there is seriously nothing worse than being ran all over. not even some breakdowns in the secondary here and there. LSU was much better once Mills got back in the secondary btw. looking forward to everyone being healthy. and Steele's putting together a really superior defensive recruiting class (influencing top linebackers to come here). players go a long ways towards success at this level.

at least we won't have the same DC who has blown the games late at the end to them.

you want to bring up weird stats.. how about how awful alabama's defense has been in their big bowl game losses the past 2 seasons under smart..

steele is a brilliant DC and has our guys in better position to stop the run, and this is most important. he has great talent, LSU's defense will be fine.

we will be fine. i am much more pleased with the defense this year than a year ago. the defense last year had heavily inflated yardage stats from the inferior competition games which are irrelevant. yet hardly any sacks or turnovers.. we are much better in actual SEC play this year making more effective plays such as tfl, sacks, wrapping up, and getting more turnovers. things that actually impact the game..

LSU doesn't need to change anything, they are the more talented team and need to continue doing what they have all season.

I look forward to this game.

Put it this way okay...

Tennessee going into the Alabama game was 2nd to last in the entire SEC in sacks I believe.. Their defense isn't even good.. and they wound up with 5 total sacks I believe..

You mean Mississippi State and Florida? Surely you aren't still considering Auburn a top 25 team.

State came within 4 inches of beating us, and we needed a fake fielgoal to beat Florida. We aren't best anything against top 25 teams. Here's another spoiler: we're going to get exposed at Bama and all the sunshine pumpers will be back down to reality after the game.

If we play man to man. Tht allows Coker to throw that crappy lob. That's about the only pass he completed against Tennessee

This.

Just because teams have been able to put together a couple of drives in the second half to make their numbers look better doesn't mean the defense is in trouble.

We've been lights out early when Steele's game planning is on it's truest display. Teams can go in and make adjustments at half, when they throw out their game plans to play catch upand yeah, we have missed some assignments when that happens.

But late in games when we need stops, Steele has schemed perfectly, applying pressure and getting big plays to put teams away.

There is also the law of averages. We aren't going to hold teams to 3 and outs every series. Eventually they'll have a drive or two when they find a rhythm.

But this team is built on running the ball, and that requires early stops to allow us to wear them down without having to play catch up and this D has done that every week.

Now, Bama is a different animal. They are built similar to us, and while our run D has appeared excellent, we really haven't played a power running team, certainly not one anywhere as good as Bama. That is my biggest concern.

Beckwith, Godchaux, and Lac, Herron, Gilmore need to play their best game of the year for us to get the win. If they do and can contain Henry and Drake, I'm not overly concerned that Coker and Ridley will be able to win it for them.
