“We’re a guard-dominated team. We don’t have a big guy like Elbert Robinson III. We don’t have a big
physical center. We don’t have a big man per se. The strength of our team is our guards. That’s why
spacing is so important. If you noticed, Rob Gray Jr. always had great driving lanes, because the floor is
spaced so much."

And they outrebounded us 46-33.

That is what happens when you're soft.

If Jordan Mickey were still in the team, the Tigers could get half of the layups blocked!

But Mickey and Martin are gone. We can only dream what this team would be like if they had stayed one more year. Their absence is telling. We completely lack any toughness inside with the exception of Simmons. I feel bad for him. He has no help defensively in the paint. We'll see him foul out in many more games because of it.

Simmons and toughness in the same sentence is a misnomer. Sorry but Simmons is soft for so much hype. I think he can be really good but he needs to play down low and be more physical. Kelvin Sampson is a really good coach. It showed yesterday that decent talent with good coaching will beat really good talent with zero coaching any day of the week.

Rebounding is 95% hustle and desire. The other 5% is knowing how to find a man and block up like you learned in 5th/6th grade.

He was soft as tissue paper last night as well.

He had 2 bad frustration fouls last night. His blocking foul however, was one of the worst calls I've ever seen.

Definitely not hallmarks of a Johnny Jones coached team. I've never seen less movement and standing around out of a basketball team.

At least this team can inbound the ball, from what I've seen. Pathetic that was such a problem last year.

No it wasnt. His feet were on the line. It is an easy call, even if it looks awful since he was in a good defending position.

I've ripped CJJ enough of late so I'll agree and give him some credit for improving one thing. After 3 years of no inbound plays we finally have some decent ones.

It took him forever to finally input "box/Americas play" where the inbounder gets down screened for in the corner. And "triangle" where there is some screen the screener action and a little slip. Everyone runs them for a reason...because they work.

We have zero presence in the inside, zero! No rebounders and no shot blockers. Simmons is the only rebounder really on this team. We can only pray that Victor gives us something. Robinson is basically useless and I hate to bash the kid but he is way to slow and has stones for hands. My starting lineup excluding Victor because we have no idea what he is going to bring. Simmons 5 foul was a complete bullshite call. Pollard was being just as physical with him if not more. There was some pretty pathetic calls in that game. Not the reason we lost by the officiating left a lot to be desired.

Hornsby
Quarterman
Sampson
Simmons
Epps

Simmons and toughness

if Simmons were 6'1" he would never get off a shot in the lane or under the goal. Also he played no defense when he got his 3rd foul, and allowed 5 or 6 shots uncontested by the point guard who was driving the lane. It looked like he was admiring the shot. TheBagMan should have replaced him earlier, or called him over and reminded him of the need to play defense. His softness will cause him to be abused in the paint in SEC games. 0-5 against the spread says it all. The teams they have beat are so weak there have no point spreads on those games. We are completely disorganized, and sometimes it looks like a pickupgame offensively and defensively. There is an awful lot of talent going to wast on this team, just like last year. Is this a glimpse of the future, or maybe just a failure for the to gel quickly ?

Most of these guys weren't taught how to rebound in 5th 6th grade like you were because they were already taller and more athletic than everyone else, so their coaches didn't worry about teaching them anything.

From the looks of it, they're still playing for a guy content to try to out athlete the other team instead of out hustle and out coach them.

With the way the game was called, you couldn't play defense.

The blonde haired ref and Simmons did not get along. He pulled Simmons out of the timeout huddle at one point to lecture him, and held the ball at another point and told Simmons to go to the other end of the court on defense

I've never seen anything like it before. Unprofessional

This. That's why they have arc painted on the court. Easiest call for a ref to make.

We are an unbelievably bad rebounding team.

Yep! That whole officiating crew was a complete joke. That call on Quarterman was one of the worse I have ever seen. They were mauling us on our side of the court under the basket and yet we would barely touch them or in Quarterman's case don't touch them at all and the fricking whistle's were being blown.

Not the reason we lost by any means but fair is fricking fair. Pollard was locking arms with Simmons all game long and they call Simmon's 5th foul on what was a complete bullshite call!

There is no future for JJ. This will/should be his last year.
