Remember when Mett, Jarvis, Odell, and Hill were scoring crazy points..? Our defense was young and we just couldn't get off the field. We went 10-3.

"If the defense does thing better they will be better" isn't really an earth shattering statement. They defense just isn't that great. They play well sometimes and don't play well at other times. They're average.

What the coach is telling you is that we have the talent to be very good on defense. We just have to do what the coaches are coaching. I believe they will get there, and this team can be a challenger.

I think about the 2019 defense that got gashed by ole miss. That seemed to be a turning point for them. Hopefully this Arkansas game will be ours.

Players need to keep working, but coaches need to keep tinkering with the scheme as well. I don’t like playing so passive on third down. We could get a little bit more exotic. Honestly our first and second down defense is decent. It’s third downs that are killing us.

The 2019 team got gashed by almost everyone, but it gets overlooked because of how good the offense was. We have given up 7 more points through 4 games than the 2019 team. The only difference is 2019 played GA. Southern, Texas, NW State, and Vandy. I'm not saying that we don't have issues defensively, but we just need the defense to be middle of the road and we'll be fine.

If we had the 2012 or 2011 defense that year with that Offense that team wins the Championship. We needed a defense that year still very disappointing how that year was wasted.
This year could be the same situation if there are not any fixes or adjustments that allows the defense to stop teams consistently to give our offense time to get into a rhythm.

You mean the secondary is average. If we had a legit LSU secondary we'd probably be undefeated and ranked 1 or 2.

That’s the point. If they start doing the little things better they can be above average.
And with this offense, that could be enough.
This doesn’t have to be the 2003, 2006 or 2011 defense.

The schemes haven't been terrible...it's the player fundamentals that have been weak.
For example, Andre Sam constantly flying up field to make tackles instead of breaking down as taught and making plays.
Or Zy Alexander coming off the TE on that long pass off the KJ scramble. That is easily fixed.
Just play fundamental football.
