Just curious? Would Lael Collins have a case against the BRPD?

Have very little legal knowledge myself, but if he chose to, could Lael Collins come around and sue the BRPD for the millions of dollars he lost because of them? What would it take for him to have a case?

Just asking for curiosity's sake, not hoping for it or anything like that.

No. What kind of a hot mess would we have if police could not investigate by the book? Police did nothing wrong. Neither did Collins. It was just an unfortunate case of horrible timing.

Doubt it, all they asked was for him to answer a few questions and submit to a DNA test.

Was her killer ever found?

Huh? They did their job. They can't refuse to investigate every LSU player.

Somebody Lael had relationships with got murdered. BRPD had every right to question Lael.

It doesn't take any legal knowledge to know that being able to sue a police department and recover for them doing their job isn't a good idea

Probably not now. The way it worked out for him he made the same or more money getting to handle his contract the way he did than if he was drafted and stuck with the rookie pay scale contract structuring.

Either way he wouldn't. They asked him to come in and talk. He refused said he was going to the draft. So they went public. He could have gone in and cleared it up before the draft and would have been ok.

No, they didn't. La'el also fricked up by not answering when they first asked and letting it drag on. Unfortunate, yes. But properly investigating a murder is more important than Collins' draft positioning

Only case he could possibly have would be against the NFL for clearly colluding to not draft him. Which clearly happened for the first 1-5 rounds.

But it would be impossible to prove and he would be suing the team that signs his checks.

Legally no. But BRPD so called investigation was bogus at best against Lael. Since Lael was NOT Considered a SUSPECT, he was only a PERSON OF INTEREST, why couldn't BRPD interview him after the draft. Hell, it wasn't like they didn't know where he was. And IMO, they was focused so much on Lael, that the real killer of that young lady is still at large.

They did. That's why he wasn't drafted because they didn't interview and clear him before the draft.

Life's not fair. They had to do their due diligence in investigating a murder. A woman lost her life. La'El will be OK. Shitty situation all around but it's not BRPD's fault that a possible suspect in a murder case happened to be a prominent LSU football star about to start his pro career.

Didn't Collins advisors give him horrible advice on answering questions? Sounds like he should have a beef with the guys in his ear.

So many stupid frickers in here. A person got killed. Lael had to answer questions. He didn't when he could have. A PERSON got killed and cops are now supposed to wait until after something because sports is more important. Unbelievable lmao

Actually, I think he is very happy to end up on Team Dallas instead of being drafted by some shite show like Cleveland or NY Jets.

yes!! I said this a couple years ago and got BLASTED on this board by idiots that said Collins should shut his mouth and lawyer up.

Innocent people, with a multi-million dollar life-changing event coming up, should be BEGGING to meet with the police to clear it all up BEFORE the draft.

Two years later, it all worked out, but he got AWFUL advice from his people.
