He should be. 2nd base is the shite. Dont have to do all that running the outfield does and dont have to display your cannon every time the ball is hit to you like the left side the infield. Easy money.

I expect a great defensive team this year. More will be in their positions as opposed to just trying to squeeze the great bats in the lineup.

With White at 3B and Pearson making the move to 2B after not ever playing any infield the last several years I have my doubts on being "great" defensively.

If there's 1 thing Jay has proven over time he will sacrifice some defense for offense over and over and over generally speaking.

If we wanted to put a good defensive lineup out there White would be DH with someone else at 3B and someone like Milam would start at 2B.

"easy money"? Did you not read JP's take on the differences in the 2 positions? All the running is not that hard because any outfielder has to 1) have above average speed 2) be in great shape.

Is this going to be a JJ thing: Take a good athletic from the outfield & plug him in at 2d, i.e., Dugas last year & Pearson this year?
Whatever works...

Well done David. I read the other articles on your site. Really appreciate the coverage here where others provide minimal support outside of season.

It’s also a chance to get another lefty in the lineup.

Dugas was the top SS in the state when he was a senior. So he had the infield experience.

Pearson looked very natural at 2B. I assumed he played there a lot in his youth. I'm actually surprised to hear it is new to him. I didn't get the same impression from Kling and Neal when they played at 2B.

I watched him make a play this fall. The ball was hit hard to him. It was actually a nice job just gloving it. He then popped up and gunned the runner out that was going home from third. So he had the instincts to know that the ball was hit hard enough that he would have a shot at the runner coming home. It was really impressive.

I'm basing everything I know off of a few fall scrimmages but I think you guys are going to pleased with his defense.

I can’t lie. That sounded shaky as hell.

Hard to believe we can’t just have a normal stud 2nd baseman without this reinventing the wheel approach

Or he’s just being honest with himself and knows he’s got work to do to get where he needs to be.

Dugas came to LSU as a middle infielder.

I have Pearson with one error while playing 2nd base this fall. It came during the PG world series and was a bobble of a routine ground ball. He had quite a few chances since his move from the outfield and handled all the rest very well. I'm confident that he will be OK at 2nd this spring.

And the defense at 2B was about the last reason for that

So who is the backup at 3B if TWs arm falls off again?
