He would not take LSU job over another potential NFL job that much is for sure. Unless LSU can throw the bank at him in neighborhood of 4.5-5 million a year, plus probably another 750k- 1.5 million per coordinator that he would want.

LSU has a natural recruiting advantage over almost every school being the only big time school in the state. So, recruiting MAY not be that hard for him. I am sure he has some contacts in Florida since he was at TB for so long. I dunno... it's fun to think about though for now right?

NFL and Super Bowl experience - he knows what it takes to get there, and players LOVE this. I can't overstate that enough.
All of these same arguments were used with Charlie Weis, and it hasn't turn out the way that ND had hoped.

I can't argue with that, but I can argue that hiring people based on looks and expecting superior results based on looks is foolish.
Don't believe me? Look into the history of Bethlehem Steel. They were once the most valuable company in the country, but their managers ran the company partially based on a ridiculous semi-Darwinist theory. Their handsome and pretty hires led the company to ruin.

Gruden is seriously one of the best motivational coaches you could find right now. That dude can jack you UP.

HELL NO it wouldn't - you guys want to carry this guy's joke strap and for what - your god damn man crush?
What a joke and what a joke thread.

Here's another one, you say something that he doesn't agree with and out comes the attack. Even though it was clearly stated that we were just dreaming. Amazing.

But does that result in wins? I don't think Tom Osborne was a real high-energy guy. I don't think Bill Bellichek is a "jack-you-up" type.
As I recall, Gruden was having some pretty serious problems in Tampa when he left. It it possible that coaching success is somewhat random and not a byproduct of specialized skill?

The Weis thing popped into my head immediately, which is why I brought up if Chucky can recruit...
Recruiting and lack thereof is what is (probably in the next couple of weeks)/has been Weis' downfall.
Somehow I think Chucky would be much more adept and willing, should he choose to accept this (hypothetical) assignment....
One thing is for sure: He would sure as HELL manage his talent a LOT better than the current clown we have in place now.

You are asking me to change your mind about something you are not going to change your mind about and I'm not going to try.
I'd like to see Gruden as our next coach. Now go chop that up into a million little pieces, scrutinize it, analyze it, psychoanalyze it, speculate about it, and think of every possible reason to refute it and tell me why it's a bad idea.
Got that? Now crumple it all up into a huge ball and cram it up your arse.

Weis had Top 10 recruiting classes.
Besides, whoever coaches in the SEC is going to be going up against comparable talent. It seems that everybody spends lots of money to scout nationwide.
That being said, would Gruden have the special ability to beat the other teams in the SEC with identical talent? I say NO. Nobody does. Not Saban, not Gruden, not Kiffin, not Vince Lombardi. This special coaching ability that will give LSU continuous 10+ win seasons does not exist.
This is a reality that Bama and Florida fans will have to come to grips with in years to come.

So then it doesn't really matter who the coach is?
Posted on 11/23/09 at 2:37 am to ezride25
That's not what I'm saying at all.
Obviously, there's such a thing as a "Bad hire". See Curley Hallman. But, there's no such thing as a "Good hire" if your expectations are consistent SEC West championships. No matter who has the job, she or he will never be good enough, not consistently anyway.
That goes against the nature of competition.

No one expects to win the west every year, but I do expect not to lose games in the manner we did. There are mistakes, and then there is yesterday. Mistakes happen, but yesterday is inexcusable.

You're absolutely correct.
Miles' game management has been AWFUL since he's been at LSU. The sad thing is that game management is the really easy part of his job.
Any 12 yr old boy that plays Playstation can tell you when a timeout needs to be called.

Please give up. Jon Gruden will not be our coach.

Thank you for being the only one to actually do your homework. If you're going to throw out names for new coaches, at least try not to be retarded about it. Use that magical thing called Google and find out that Gruden signed an exclusive contract this year to stay in the MNF booth. Gruden will not coach here anytime soon.
