John Chavis appreciation thread

A few years ago I realized that Les Miles had stumbled upon genius; why play 11 guys on offense the entire game when I can rotate 15-16 guys and beat down the opposing defense. Chavis has adopted the same philosophy on defense. 4 defensive lineman tire by 3rd quarter but 8 do not. 4 defensive backs wear out throughout a game, but 8 don't. I really think this is the genius of miles, now smartly adopted by Chavis. It is a "whole team" approach to winning that allows everyone to participate and keeps fresh legs for the second half. LSU has team speed, no doubt; but they also have more players really contributing all game long.

I really could not fathom the amount of skepticism toward Chavis shown by fans on the Tiger Rant from the day he was hired all the way through the weeks after the UNC game in 2010.

Chief always has a plan and knows how to identify defensive talent.

Still nervous about the coverages we might see Saturday. I hope he is aggressive

quote:ive never understood it either. for some reason, he still gets his share of "WTF is chavis doing..." threads. after 08, chief has been an amazing part of our football team. where would we be without his excellent defenses? its like people expect him to pitch shut outs and never give up yards...

to you, chief. and note to the LSU AD, get an extension ready for this guy. other schools are just going to keep coming after him, and we gotta lock him down.

I will eat some crow I was one of them. Mainly because Tenn call him Third and Chavis. He belonged to fat phil and what if phil rubbed off oh him? He was at Tenn for a long time then suddenly lost his job...which doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I thought he might lack motivation and heart at LSU.
I was wrong on all count!

Recruiting! When you're 2 deep (3at some positions ) you can dial up the blitz/rush packages he has - for 4 quarters. - with almost fresh legs.
Appreciate Chavis transition to the Tigers - not easy to be with one team for so long & move to another team in the same conference. Gotta wonder how he felt the first time we met UT.
Class act & quality coach. Good recruiting LM.

It was a marriage made in heaven. Chavis has always needed these kinds of athletes to make the mustang work right. Well he's got them now. In spades. Deep. Gonna have them for years to come.
Good luck to the teams trying to beat him. You better be holding a miracle in your pocket.

Yesir, even Tennessee fans are changing their tune concerning Chief.

Sorry but his first year here was NOTHING like what he's got now. And if you think it was you're a fricking moron.

The best part about Chavis is that he isn't going anywhere!

Heck, I think that he is as comfortable with Miles as he was with Fulmer. Everybody that coaches under Miles seems to really admire him. He's a great man, great coach.
